Updated 2/10/06: JC returned to foster care after a brief stay with an adopting family. Her foster family is seeing her lovely character show itself quickly. She gets along great with the resident dogs and follows them into the yard when it’s time for pitstops. Her foster parents are working with JC to trim a few pounds while she is with them. They have noticed that she is a very good “beggar”, so they are keeping her active and offering extra petting and cuddles instead extra treats. What a good deal for JC!!
Updated 12/1/05: The changes in JC as she has settled in her foster home have all been truly good ones. She is a much more confident gal. There is no longer any submissive urination when she is leashed to go outside. She smells everything now when out for a walk instead of “being on guard.” She will bark to announce someone knocking on the door. When she sees people out in public, she goes right over for some petting. If there is a small child, and if it’s OK with the parent, JC will go up to the youngster and give a kiss. She still will hide behind her foster mom if a big dog is close, but now she is easily won over.
The resident dog in JC’s foster home is an accomplished couch potato who passes up the chance to play with her. He is actually quite jealous of her and a bit aggressive. She handles that by avoiding him, and if he is persistent, she will growl at him. That is about all it takes for the two of them to live together well.
JC loves her walks and is good on leash. She has no problem with being out beside busy streets with cars coming and going. Today, when her foster mom said, “‘Who wants to go outside?”, JC took her hand in her mouth and pulled a little as if to say, “Yes! Yes!” If you ever needed a little nudge to get off the couch yourself and do some walking, JC would be the perfect companion to hook up with!!
Description: JC is a sweetheart who has not had a very fair shake from the people in her life lately. Her family moved away and left her with neighbors. It was clear that JC was sad, and no doubt confused by the arrangement. She had been returning to her home a few houses away to look for her people. The family was going to try to find her a home, but they called the neighbors, and they told them to drop her at a shelter. Fortunately, the nice neighbors contacted MAESSR instead of the shelter.
With the move to a foster home, JC has settled into a new routine and is doing well. She is a bit overweight, so she and her foster mom are walking a lot. When JC sees new people, she wants to go over and say “Hi” immediately. If she sees a big dog coming , she’s not always so sure and will turn away or try to hide behind someone. Given a few moments to think about it though, she will warm up and be friendly to the big guys too. JC has had some training on basic commands, and with a gentle reminder, will be obedient when asked to “come” or “sit” or stop doing something with a “no.”
While at home, JC loves to cuddle, play with her ball or other toys and will roll over to rub her back with glee. She also has an eye for soft places such as the couch or bed but is learning from her foster mom that those are off limits. The neighbor whom JC stayed with reported that she did not like crates, and because of her good manners, her foster mom has not found a need for one. JC is easy to take places and rides well in a dog seat belt or the back of a SUV.
Once her vetting is complete, JC will be ready for one more move and, hopefully, her last move. She is very sweet and lovable, submissive, loves being close to her people, and deserves a home with a forever family.
Can you offer her the last home she’ll ever need?
