Original: Jazz is looking for a new home. He does have mild skin allergies, which may be caused by a lack of grooming or fleas, we’re not sure. These type of skin problems are quite easy to clear up. Jazz is regularly allowed to run in a wetland area, and then is not cleaned. This maybe what his skin is reacting to. Jazz has a great temperament. He is good with children and cats. Jazz is good with other dogs once he has some time to warm up to them. Like so many rescues, Jazz would really benefit from an obedience class. His current owners really haven’t done much work with him. He is a sweet boy, and very energetic. He would do very well in an active household with someone committed to working with him. Jazz is housebroken, but not crate trained.
UPDATE: July 25, 1999
Last week, Jazz came into foster care for a week layover before being placed with his new home. We soon learned that Jazz needs to be the only dog in his house, or in a house with a submissive dog. He has not been well-socialized with other dogs. As a result, he has a tendency to growl at them if they get too close. However, he is much quieter and mellower than reported. He does still like to bark at the door and at squirrels and people walking by the house. He loves people and wants to sit on your foot and be petted. He is doing well with the children in the foster home. Jazz would do very well in a home where he is the only pet and where he will get lots of affection. Also, because he has not had much training, an obedience class is mandatory.
Physically, his skin is clear, the fleas are gone and he is showing no signs of allergies at all.
UPDATE: August 8, 1999
Jazz got to spend some time with one of our volunteers who evaluates our dogs regularly. She agrees with what has been said about Jazz to date, but would make a few changes. First, Jazz desparately needs an obedience class. He is not really leash trained and the hunting dog in him causes him to lunge after any “critter” he sees. A confident owner and a good class will do wonders for him. Second, Jazz is just fine with docile dogs. He will not look for trouble. He simply doesn’t want to be bothered by other dogs. Third, Jazz loves to be outside. A house with a fenced-in yard would be perfect for him. He can not be placed with an apartment dweller. Finally, Jazz is very sweet and lovable. He has a good heart and truly loves people. Jazz’ prey drive and love of people makes him very amenable to training as a hunting dog and family pet.

Now to tell you a little bit about Mr.. Jazz. I really find it hard to believe that the information on the web site even relates to Jazz. He has been a pleasure to foster. The only bad habits that he has are pulling when he is walked and he jumps up on me when I first get home or when I am preparing to walk him. As of lately he has been bringing me his leash when he knows I am getting ready to take him out. I am working on correcting the few bad habits that he has.
He has not even pretended to growl at my mouthy, alpha GSD. They play very well together. He will let her do anything to him. She will put a toy in his face trying to get him to play and he will not take from her. They chase each other in the house and wrestle with her usually being the dominant one. They will jump up on each other with their legs and paws extended. They neither one get mad at the other, they just play hard and enjoy it, laying down panting when it is over.
Feeding has never been an issue. They both eat at the same time and in the same room. They sit for their bone in the morning, taking turns on getting it out of the box. He will sit and wait for her to get hers first. If they are both thirsty at the same time, they drink out of the same bowl at the same time.
He has never had an accident in the house. I had him swimming yesterday, he really enjoyed it! He imitates some of the things that Trooper does. He is really a great dog. Maybe his previous behavior was due to the recent uprooting he experienced. He played with a six month old springer without incident. If anyone has any questions about Jazz, please give me a call.

Sweet Jazz, he has come so far in foster care. He was adopted last week! He has a new home with a dad who completely dotes on him. He is getting along well with his new doggy brother. We’ll post his update soon.
UPDATE:
Wow, Day 2 with Jazz. He is such a sweetheart, so gentle and kind. I still can’t believe that a wonderful dog like this had to live in four states in his first three years of life. He must be so confused being uprooted so much, but he is so calm and gentle. He is truly and angel. I do have and I believe the Lord had a hand in all this!! Jazz has already given me so much joy and filled an
empty void in my life. He is so wonderful!
Jazz really has a way of touching your heart right from the moment you meet him. In fact, I made the following obersevation about him. Joanne met him yesterday and my parents today. They fell in love with the moment they sat down with him. There is no “warm-up” period with Jazz. He has a way of stealing your heart the first 30 seconds after you meet him. His combination of charm along with his gentle disposition wins you over the minute you start to pet him.
Jazz was truly mis-represented in his initial evaluation. What a wonderful, sweet dog he is. Jazz is so sweet and gentle. He has impeccable house manners. He is a perfect gentleman to everyone he meets. He has bonded quickly with my other dog, Cody. (We give a lot of credit for Jazz’ wonderful manners to his two foster homes. They worked very hard with Jazz and helped turn him into the wonderful dog that Tom loves.)
Jazz loves the outdoors, loves to swim and is always trying to flush game. Jazz will always come when called. You call him once and he runs full speed back to you, every time. Exploring the woods with Jazz has been pure enjoyment for both of us.
As I type this, Jazz is snoozing at my feet. What a wonderful dog, such a kind soul to everyone he meets. He comes housebroken with perfect manners. Jazz has immediately become a dearly loved member of the family. Jazz is the first dog I have adopted through a rescue organization. I encourage anyone who is looking for a dog to consider adopting a rescue dog. Adopting Jazz has been a truly wonderful experience.
Sincerely,
Tom
