Update 02/08/2018: “Jazz loves to ride. If you are looking for a travel buddy, Jazzy is the one.“
Jazz was found wandering in rural West Virginia. She had been out in the cold weather for a couple of days. When the shelter checked her over, they found she was a MAESSR girl and called. A volunteer angel did a lot of driving to get Jazz safely to her foster home.
Now that Jazz is back in MAESSR hands, she is acting like her old self. Jazzy was glad to see her former foster mom and has been her shadow since she returned. Jazz was started back on her joint supplement and seems to be doing great. She does not act like her hips bother her. Indeed, her favorite activity is to jump on the bed.
Jazz loves to go for walks and gets extremely excited when the leash comes out. It is even better if the leash means she is going on a car ride. Jazz loves to ride. If you are looking for a travel buddy, Jazzy is the one.
Update 03/20/2017: “Spring is coming, the birds are singing, the grass will soon be green, and Jazz is looking forward to having fun with her furever family.”
Jazz was returned to MAESSR because of her owner’s deteriorating health. A trip to her new foster mom’s vet revealed that this beauty has significant hip dysplasia. She is now receiving medication and a joint supplement which are making her feel much better.
Sweet Jazz likes to be the boss so her new family will need to be aware of that tendency and be creative in encouraging her to do some things that she does not want to do. But, their patience will be rewarded by an extremely sweet and loving dog.
Spring is coming, the birds are singing, the grass will soon be green, and Jazz is looking forward to having fun with her furever family.
Update 02/18/2016: “Jazz now sleeps in the bed, instead of next to the bed, and thinks the couch is very comfy. It’s just the spot to be with her family.”
Within a short time, Jazz lost her beloved owner, made several moves, went into heat and then was spayed. Poor girl…she went from being very scared to very grumpy to very sore. The good news is Jazz is finally a very happy, bouncy Springer. Her foster mom was so proud of her after her surgery. Jazz never needed a cone to prevent her from bothering her incision, which was wonderful as she was so very frightened. When the time came for her post-spay checkup, Jazz lay very still on foster mom’s lap without a sound or worry.
Jazz has managed to drop a few pounds and increase her energy level by running regularly in the woods with her foster playmates. Since Jazz is trusted off the leash when appropriate, she doesn’t get much leash time and will need some additional training in that area. She has nailed the “sit” and “stay” commands unless those pesky felines are around; they seem to be her Achilles heel!! She loves riding in the car, is always up for a new adventure, and is very happy sitting in the back seat.
Jazz continues to be trusted 100% when left alone at home and her growling and food resource guarding are much improved. This feisty young lady can be a little rough when playing with people, but listens when she is told to be nice. She now sleeps in the bed, instead of next to the bed, and thinks the couch is very comfy. It’s just the spot to be with her family.
Since this little lady has come out of her shell, her foster mom reports that her manners are not as perfect as first reported. But, who wants a perfect Springer? Jazz is looking for folks who will give her plenty of opportunities to both play and cuddle. A family who will help her learn more commands and encourage her to become a polite gal at the end of the leash would be wonderful. A home with adults and/or older children would be best for her.
Original: “This beauty loves being with her people, loves playing with the other dogs, and loves to run (she would do well as a running companion).”
When Jazz’s seventy-three year old Pennsylvania owner passed away, some very good Samaritans contacted MAESSR, took this young lady to the vet, paid to update her vaccinations and drove several hours to introduce Jazz to her new foster mom. Jazz and MAESSR thank these folks for taking good care of her during such a sad, confusing time.
Jazz is slowly adjusting to her new life and can be flighty at times. Several members of her foster family are high energy, and she found their energy intimidating at first. She is still leery of fast movements but does not shy away and recovers quickly. Loud noises don’t seem to bother Jazz—lawn mower, leaf blower, power tools outside are o.k. Indoors the vacuum is something to be avoided!!
When Jazz needs to go out she will stand by the door and if she is not noticed, come to stand where she can be seen until she catches her person’s attention. Then she goes back to the door. Her foster sibs use a pet door that Jazz has not learned how to use yet. Miss J is trusted 100% and is not crated when the foster family is not at home. She has had no accidents and has done no inappropriate chewing or trash diving.
This girl’s house manners are fabulous. She doesn’t jump on the furniture and sleeps on her dog bed right next to her foster mom. She is very polite when greeting new people—no jumping for this well-behaved gal. Jazz doesn’t beg at the table, and if given a treat, she is a perfect lady who takes it very softly. Now that she is comfortable with her foster mom, Jazz enjoys having her ears, feet and belly gently rubbed. She does, however, growl if bothered while she is eating.
Jazz does not seem to know any commands but is working on “sit” and “stay.” Leash walking is a work in progress as she is very strong and pulls a lot. Jazz does not bark unnecessarily (except at those pesky feline critters), and, while she doesn’t seem to be interested in toys, balls or bones, she is perfectly happy playing with the other dogs, chasing the cats or just giving and receiving hugs and kisses along with a good butt scratching.
The new girl in the family enjoys riding in the car and does not try to drive as most Springers do. Jazz’s foster dad takes all the dogs in the car to run in the woods, and Jazz rides nicely on the back seat with the other dogs. She loves to run and can be trusted off leash as long as nothing scares her.
Jazz is a beautiful Springer with a thick, soft coat and gorgeous markings. She has a loving but playful personality. This beauty loves being with her people, loves playing with the other dogs, and loves to run (she would do well as a running companion). She is just the right energy level, ready to go but just as happy sitting by her person’s side (don’t forget to scratch her butt while she’s sitting there.) She did live a very quiet, slow pace
