Original: “At his foster home with a big, fenced-in yard and other dogs to play with, Jaxon has really had a chance to burn off his puppy energy daily—something he needs.”
Jaxon became a MAESSR boy when his Maryland parents found they were not equipped to handle his energy or the challenges they were experiencing with his anxiety.
This handsome puppy was really bonded to the dad in his family and his mom was not so thrilled having an energetic puppy added to the household. If the dad was with Jaxon all day, the pup would be fine; otherwise, he was crated much of the day and became very anxious with all of his pent-up puppy energy.
Although Jaxon did not have much prior experience with other dogs, at his foster home with a big, fenced-in yard and other dogs to play with, Jaxon has really had a chance to burn off his puppy energy daily—something he needs. He loves to play fetch with his people and is a good passenger in the car.
Jaxon’s manners have improved too. He is better at meeting people and is more well-behaved inside the house. He will try to counter-surf but is learning that keeping four paws on the floor gets him praise and treats. His foster mom’s positive reinforcement training has proved much more effective with him than his previous owner’s use of excessive crating and shock collars—those methods just caused Jaxon to be more anxious.
Note that MAESSR will require Jaxon’s adoptive family to take him through a series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption. MAESSR only places puppies – even older ones like Jaxon– in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience. MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. As his training continues, Jaxon will be a positive addition to some lucky family.
