Jax was relinquished to MAESSR when he dug under this fence on several occasions and his Virginia owner was concerned that he would be hit by a car. Food-motivated, he’d also gobble their other dog’s meals before she could get to them. So, Jax became a MAESSR boy.
In his foster home, Jax has not tried to dig but since the resident dog was a digger in her youth, the fencing has tiedown pegs. Fed separately from the other dogs, he easily accepts a puppy gate as a barrier at mealtimes.
This tricolor male pup is handsome and has been a fairly easy foster for a ten-month-old puppy. He loves to play and eagerly accepts invitations to race around the yard when the female feels like leading him a merry chase. He also accepts “go away” signals from the older resident dogs. He likes Kongs, loves his puzzle bowl for eating, knows “sit,” and is decent on leash after he gets past his initial excitement. He’s great in the car, just hanging out in the back and grinning. At the vet, he sat and just happily wagged away at everyone who passed by. He can tend to jump up a bit if an excited voice is used, but “sit” works there too.
Please note that MAESSR will require Jax’s adoptive family to take him through a series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption. MAESSR only places puppies – even older ones – in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience. MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment.
A real surprise, Jax has been completely housetrained since arriving and crates quietly at night until his foster sister announces: “Sun is up!” about 7 am. He shows no food aggression but also chows down quickly and doesn’t mind bowl surfing if he can get away with it. He’s learning not to put paws up on the counter to look. He likes chew toys, will occasionally shred a stuffed animal but doesn’t bother people things like shoes. He doesn’t garbage dive. Rarely barking, he will join the resident gal in making noise if the neighbors get a UPS delivery. When the humans are away, Jax is just gated into one room.
Jax hasn’t been to the groomers yet, but loves being brushed and accepts having his ears and paws handled. This sweet boy greets everyone he meets with love and energy. During the work day, he goes into recharge mode, just flopping at his foster mom’s feet to hang until it’s time to do something else. Reportedly Jax loves to swim and blow nose bubbles while doing it.
Jax is adorable and will be so ready to find his forever home. He’d love a fenced yard and having either a friendly doggie play-pal or humans to interact with him on a regular basis. He’s low-key enough to be a companion if given things to do to keep him entertained, but he also has the energy to be a running or hiking buddy. This intelligent and handsome guy just wants to be your best friend.
