Jax’s foster mom reports that he is so loveable and all-boy Springer Spaniel! Most days he seems like pure energy, and, when it comes to leash walking, Jax still could pull a cement truck around the block! He is just one happy dog.
Recently a lump was discovered on Jax’s back. It had become infected, so he has been taking antibiotics to clear it up. His vet surmised that it probably came from an old dog bite that did not heal properly. Chances are it happened when Jax and his littermate were mixing it up a bit in their former home. In his current home, Jax gets along great with the resident Springer. The medication seems to be effective since the lump is almost gone. Jax will revisit the vet soon to get the thumbs up on the healing process.
At his foster mom’s office, Jax has learned that he needs to curb his barking, so he’s making a step in the right direction when it comes to toning it down a bit. Good boy, Jax!
One of Jax’s favorite pastimes is carrying a shoe around in his mouth. He trots it about the house but never chews it……..his foster family is always looking for the other half of a pair of shoes! What a funny guy!
Consider adding Jax to your pack. This boy just loves life and would like to spend his life with a special family to love.

Jax has returned to MAESSR after a brief time with a super lady who adopted him. His shortcoming was that he had never learned to walk with good manners on a leash. As a healthy, 5 year-old Springer, he is robust. One day when his owner was walking him, he bolted after something and pulled her down to the ground. For everyone’s well-being, it was decided that Jax should be matched to another family. Training is underway since his return as well, using an Easy Walker leash/harness. Jax is a work in progress but is a smart boy and should be walking politely when he meets his next family.
All else is going well for Jax. He is a real cuddle bunny with the classic Springer wiggle butt! Currently he loves the open space of a fenced-in backyard and enjoys hanging out and running with the resident Springer. One lucky dog………Jax rides nicely in the car and goes to work every day with his foster mom. At night he loves to sit on the couch with his foster mom and watch her read.
At times Jax is very vocal. He likes to bark at squirrels, birds, other dogs and kids walking by his yard. Slowly, he’s learning that these are all friends and is trying to lead a quieter life. He is learning to enjoy the company of strangers without having to announce their arrival.
Jax loves kisses and hugs and playing ball with his foster dad! Along with improved leash manners, he’ll bring playfulness, companionship, and a lively personality to his next adopting family. Keep a watch on this boy……he’s a wonderful work in progress!!

Jax and his littermate, Dewey, had been together since birth, living with the same family until sadly that owner experienced severe financial difficulties, lost his home and had to surrender these boys to a Pennsylvania shelter. Their owner reported that “the boys” were bonded, Dewey being the leader, and should be placed together. However, once in their foster home, they demonstrated a rivalry which necessitated their being moved to separate homes.
Since becoming an only dog, Jax has developed a more confident personality. He enjoys playing with squeaky toys and, being a fine gentleman, does not destroy them. Good boy, Jax! He also has fun with visiting family members. He does think the couch and bed are his to enjoy, but responds to “off.” He does not counter-surf, although his finely developed sense of smell tells him when goodies hit the trash bag. He has complete run of the home and, being a considerate guest, settles down comfortably unless his acute vision and hearing cause him to bark as a reaction to stimuli outside the house.
Jax is housetrained but does not have a specific sign to tell his foster mom that he needs to go out. He does respond to “sit,” and “lie down,” and is becoming better at “stay” for increasingly longer periods of time.
A high energy dog who loves to run, Jax really enjoys his daily trip to the enclosed dog park. He does seem to have a well developed tracking sense, shows great interest in small moving creatures and will give chase. Walking on leash, however, is a work in progress for Jax and his need to pull and lunge is being managed with a Gentle Leader. A restraining harness for his trips in the car has also proved to be a good intervention for Jax.
He was well behaved on both his trip to the vet and the groomer. He tolerates his home groomings, but doesn’t really like having his back paws touched and has little patience with ear cleaning.
Jax is a lively, happy dog who continues to benefit from socialization and home obedience instruction. In typical Springer fashion, he responds to consistency and love and will be a wonderful addition to his furever home.
