Original: “He is a VERY high energy boy who will need a very active family to burn up much of that energy on a daily basis.”
“Here Kitty, Kitty.” Springer pup Jasper was heard saying this to the resident cats in his Pennsylvania home a little too often before he would start chasing them. He did not realize how big and strong he was and how little they were. With his strong prey drive, he just wanted to go after them. This behavior was obviously not acceptable to Jasper’s owner or to the resident cats. Afraid for her cats, the owner relinquished Jasper to MAESSR knowing a loving forever home that was cat-free could be found for this energetic boy.
Jasper is housetrained and is crate trained. Although he can be crated at night, he prefers to sleep in bed with his people! He loves being around his humans, cuddling with them and jumping up in greeting. This boy likes traveling in the car and sits in the front passenger seat, enjoying the ride. Great at the groomer and at the vet, Jasper loves the attention he gets from both. There is no separation anxiety problem with Jasper but he is afraid of large trucks driving past and loud noises like a car backfiring. He likes to spend his 4th of July inside!
A very smart boy, Jasper knows many commands, including “sit,” “come,” “down,” “stay off,” “leave it,” and “spin.” Quite a repertoire! When he is walked wearing a regular collar, he pulls; however, he walks nicely on a gentle leader. When he meets people, he likes to jump up and hug them. Since Jasper has a very high prey drive, he doesn’t listen when he is in “prey drive” mode. Note that MAESSR will require Jasper’s adoptive family to take him through a series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption. MAESSR only places puppies – even older ones — in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience. MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment.
Besides being required to take Jasper to doggy school, his forever family must be committed to making sure Jasper gets enough exercise daily. He is a VERY high energy boy who will need a very active family to burn up much of that energy on a daily basis. He may make a good jogging partner and a fun boy to take on long walks. Active playing and chasing in his yard will be fun activities for him also. Agility and nose work might be satisfying for this active boy. He attendied doggie day care and was great with other dogs and people. Remember, a tired pup is a good pup!
Jasper is a sweetie. Someone is going to get very lucky with this fun boy!
