Sweet little Jasper, who was found wandering a major highway in Pennsylvania, spent several months in a shelter before being rescued by MAESSR. He is believed to be a springer mix – possibly with bassett hound judging by his short stature and large paws.
Being hard of hearing and short on eye sight does not stop Jasper, and, it doesn’t seem to bother him at all! Jasper smiles all the time and loves being outside sniffing everything in true springer form! As long as someone is outside with him, it isn’t necessary to have him on a leash but, because of his diminished vision and hearing, he shouldn’t be left outside alone.
It is unknown if Jasper is crate-trained. He sleeps in his foster parent’s office area on his own blanket. He would love to get into his foster parent’s dinner plates, if he were allowed, and would definitely prefer “people food” to dog food but will take what he can get!
The shelter staff told Jasper’s foster mom that he was not housebroken. While he has had a couple accidents, it seems that he does know it’s best to do his business outside and, if you make him wait too long, he gives you a deep, loud bark to let you know it’s time……..what a savvy senior, Jasper!!!
Jasper is not fond of car rides unless he can sit on your lap! While at the shelter, Jasper was a good boy for the groomer and at the veterinarian’s office. His foster mom will have first hand info soon.
Estimated to be 9 years old or better, Jasper does have some lameness in his rear legs and is taking a supplement daily to treat it. This condition makes stairs a tough job for Jasper; like many seniors, he would love one-level living.
Jasper has a lot of heart and a lot of love to give, despite his recent misfortune. He fits right into his foster family and will make the transition to an adopting family as easily. If you have a place for Jasper where he can wonder and sniff that doesn’t involve going up and down stairs, then Jasper would be a wonderful, loving addition to your home. He’s one happy boy to be around!!!!
