Update 05/05/12:
Jamie was briefly adopted and then returned to MAESSR’s care. He was not secure enough in his skill at meeting new people to handle the volume of foot traffic at his adoptive home. His foster mom has continued to work with Jamie since his return and this smart boy is definitely doing better. When his foster family had a doggie-friendly overnight visitor recently, Jamie was excited to check her out; he was quickly won over with a few yummy treats and decided she was OK for the rest of the visit.
This handsome lad also attended the recent MAESSR picnic in Richmond and met lots of new friends there. His foster mom was extremely pleased with his behavior and feels he is ready to meet an adopting family who will continue to work with him as she has. The time invested in Jamie will lead to a lifetime of great companionship!
Update 03/07/12:
Like all youngsters his age, Jamie still has some “growing up” to do. He was recently moved to a new foster home, so he could get a little more socialization. There he has done fairly well with meeting several new people. He will bark at them initially but, within 10 minutes, they are his new best friends and he does not look back.
This handsome pup is a Springer/border collie mix. As a result of this combination, he is very smart and loves to learn. His foster mom is very surprised at how quickly he catches on and remembers things. Such quick studies are so much fun to work with!!
To continue what is underway, MAESSR will be requiring Jamie’s adoptive family to complete one series of obedience classes with him. This will assure he gets some good basic training and bonding with his new family. He will shine when living with active people who keep both his mind and body fit. If you are looking for a sweet boy to run with or go hiking, Jamie is the one!
Update 02/18/12:
With the help of his foster family, Jamie continues to learn what is required of a well behaved pup. Still a bit of a jumper, he is doing much better, but he remains a work in progress. Sometimes it’s just so hard for him to curb his young Springer enthusiasm!
A playful guy, Jamie just loves engaging the resident male in some fun, but the resident female doesn’t appreciate his youthful exuberance! Jamie is in love with his foster family’s cat, but just can’t figure out why she doesn’t want to play with him. It might take him a while to realize that it’s a cat thing!
Meeting strangers is a scary thing for Jamie right now. He will be working with his foster family to understand that meeting new people can be fun. Watch for more news on this sweet, fun-loving boy as he gets ready to join his new family.
Original:
Jamie was found on a trash pile in Pennsylvania by a good Samaritan when he was about four months old. She took him in and got him started on the road to being a house dog. Unfortunately, the good Samaritan had three other dogs and adding in a fourth dog proved to be too much. So now, Jamie’s a MAESSR boy.
Settling well into life in his foster home, Jamie has had no accidents, although he doesn’t really signal his need to go out yet. He is crate-trained and stays in the crate when his foster folks are gone and at night. When he first came to MAESSR, his foster parents fed him in the crate since that was what the former owner did; however, they have been leaving the door open and feeding him outside and he is doing well.
As a pup, Jamie needs to work on his manners, but is catching on quickly that good things happen when your paws are on the floor! He is trying to be a counter-surfer, but his foster parents are discouraging that behavior. The resident dogs have furniture rights, so it’s hard to say no to Jamie who jumps up for a snooze. He did try to snatch a slipper a couple of times, but he gave it up when told. Good boy! His foster family has been diligent in keeping an eye on Jamie and keeping plenty of toys around for him to chew on so that inappropriate chewing does not happen.
Jamie loves playing with all toys in true puppy fashion and he especially likes a game of fetch. This playful guy engages the resident senior and they have a grand time wrestling and chasing. Quick to understand his place in the pack, Jamie is respectful of the resident dogs and doesn’t seem to care about sharing his toys or food with them. He will also allow his people to take toys and food from him. Jamie is a big help doing housework but he has his preferred chores; he loves the duster but doesn’t like the vacuum. Loved by all, Jamie has even gotten the approval of the resident cat!
This Mr. Wiggly is good at having his feet and ears handled and likes being brushed. Of course, this includes lots of squirming around since everything is a game with this guy. He wasn’t very thrilled at the vet, though, but the exam was completed.
Jamie’s forever home should be an active one, with time to devote to this bundle of energy. Another dog would be a plus for Jamie since he loves playing with them. Jamie needs to go to obedience classes with his forever family as is required by MAESSR when one adopts a puppy a year or younger. He’s smart guy and needs to channel all that energy! Since he is very bouncy and playfully rowdy, his foster mom recommends only older children in his forever home.
If this describes your household, Jamie would be a perfect addition who would give you a lifetime of love and play.
