Jake is a wonderful field-bred puppy. He was brought into a shelter as a stray. Pulled out by Cocker Rescue, they gave him to us for placement. He is doing very well in foster care. He’s very well-behaved. He doesn’t chew on many things he’s not supposed to. He is still a puppy after all. He gets along great with other dogs. He’s 90% housetrained. Jake also knows several commands, sit, down and shake. He is quite a lovebug.
His foster mom has said that if she wanted a second dog, she would keep Jake.
The downside is that we think Jake may have hip dysplasia. His way of walking and response to fatigue have motivated us to get his hips x-rayed. That will happen in the next week or so. If he does have HD that requires surgery, Jake will be in foster care for a long time while he heals. If it is only moderate dysplasia. We will not get the surgery. Many dogs live long active lives with moderate dysplasia as long as they are well exercised, fit and not subjected to repetitive exercise such as jogging. We will keep you posted on his progress.
Update:
Lucky Jake! His hips are good. He was only in such poor shape that he had little or no muscle control. He is doing very well. He has been adopted by a family with two young children, and everyone is thrilled.
