This sweet, blind Cocker Spaniel found himself in a Pennsylvania shelter when his owner died. The shelter did not feel they could place him so they contacted a dedicated rescue person who then contacted the CEO of MAESSR. She knew that the CEO has a weakness for Cockers—especially older blind ones. MAESSR agreed to bring him into their foster program and now Jake is an honorary Springer.
Jake is both crate trained and housetrained. With a great nose and a good sense of spatial awareness, he gets around like he has complete vision. With cataracts in both eyes, he has some vision in his right eye, but his left lens has luxated forward taking away his vision in the left eye. He also has glaucoma in the left eye so that eye will be removed when he is neutered to alleviate the pain caused by the pressure in the eye.
Jake recently switched to a quieter foster home with fewer dogs and he has made the adjustment smoothly. Initially, there was some bumping into walls, trees, and the occasional leg, but he learns quickly and has a fantastic nose! He sniffs all around and has learned the layout of his new home pretty easily. His foster family has also discovered that Jake loves to ride in the car. He just lies down and enjoys the ride. Good boy, Jake!
There are young children in Jake’s new foster home; he is very patient with them and accepting of their activities. Jake’s foster mom says he is amazingly tolerant of the copious amount of love he is receiving from her one year old! He loves everyone! Jake really is near perfection—such a sweet soul!
Any family would be very lucky to have Jake live out the rest of his life with them. He is a true jewel! Watch for more about Jake as he has his medical procedures completed.
