Jake was picked up by animal control as he was running loose in the streets of a small Maryland town. When an officer notified his owners so Jake could be reunited with his family, they told her that he was no longer wanted. A volunteer for the facility contacted MAESSR knowing that they could find him a home where he would be appreciated and loved.
At nine months old and 32 pounds, Jake is one adorable bundle of Springer joy! He gets along well with cats, other dogs, and people of all ages. He especially enjoys playing with the other puppy in his foster home, and is very responsive to corrections from the adult dogs when he wants to play and they do not. This boy does not have an aggressive bone in his body. He willingly shares toys, treats, and human attention with the canines in his foster home. In fact, because he is a little bit of a pushover, his foster parents feed him in a separate room or in his crate to be sure that he is the only one eating his meals!
Since he was young, intact, and had a history of running loose and generally doing as he pleased, Jake’s foster parents fully expected him to have some marking issues and accidents when they brought him home. Instead, they were pleasantly surprised to find that Jake was a smart boy who quickly caught on to the routine of going outside for bathroom breaks. Except for one incident on his very first afternoon in foster care, he has been accident free – good boy, Jake!
Jake is a handsome boy with a perfect blaze, a gorgeous saddle and a full tail that seems to be in constant motion. Although he had probably never been groomed before, he was very well behaved when taken for his bath and puppy trim. Even the groomer was surprised at how easy he was to work with! Jake was a little nervous about his trip to the vet, but soon relaxed and enjoyed the attention from the vet and pet nurses who thought he was extremely cute. He got his vaccines and even had his blood drawn without making a peep. He received a good report from the vet with his clean ears and shiny white teeth, but she did mention that he could stand to gain a few pounds.
Jake doesn’t seem to have much experience playing with toys, but he is definitely interested in checking out the box full of stuffed animals and bones at his foster home. He very tentatively sneaks up to the box and picks out a toy, but will drop it immediately if another dog shows interest in it or even just walks by. Jake has great house manners. He does not chew on inappropriate objects, counter-surf, or bother the trash. He doesn’t get up on furniture generally, but will hop onto his foster parents’ bed in the morning if invited. Jake readily goes into his crate at night or when his foster parents are out and stays there quietly until he is released.
Being the young pup that he is, Jake can be a little “squirrely” in the car. He settles right down if someone is in the backseat with him, but needs to be tethered or crated if he is riding solo. Jake sits beautifully when told to do so, but doesn’t yet know any other commands. He does come when he is called. Jake’s leash manners need some work. Everything is so exciting when he is out on a walk! He seems to want to run in ten different directions at once! Jake is submissive, smart, and extremely eager to make his people happy. He will thrive when given consistent direction and shown what is expected of him during the obedience classes that are a requirement for all MAESSR adoptees under 1 year of age.
Jake is an adorable young boy with plenty of puppy antics ready to entertain his forever family. Are you ready to welcome this sweet Springer pup into your pack?
