Original: Jake is brand new into rescue. In fact, we haven’t even picked him up yet. We will get him april 1, 2000. Here is what we know of him to date:
This is from an email from the shelter:
The older couple who adopted him really wanted him and they had had a Springer. We were skeptical, but their long ownership of Springers must have convinced the counselor. They wrote a very nice note and filled in our turn in sheet stating that it was their inability to handle a puppy that caused this. They stated that they didn’t have the stamina or energy to really take care of him properly.
He is housebroken.
He’s a housepet, active, intelligent, playful, affectionate.
Has gotten along with cats, and has liked everyone he’s been exposed to.
Their yard had a 4ft fence and he never escaped.
They state that this is not his fault, and is very hard to do. They also asked that if it came down to him being put to sleep, that they would try again to handle the energy.
Here are excerpts from their note:
“Jake” is a very lovable, affectionate puppy but also very rough, strong and strong-willed. He needs someone with lots of patience, loving and kind, to work with him until he is out of his puppy stage. I’m sure he will then be a wonderful, loyal dog and give someone much pleasure. He is housebroken, likes to go for walks and play ball, and loves attention. A real ham-bone, loves company.
We are an older couple and really do not have the endurance and stamina for a puppy. We are sorry to give him up because his is so easy to love and hope he gets a good home with a loving, caring family. He truly deserves it. A beautiful puppy.
He did run in a fenced yard, slept on a large towel and likes to chew on a large rawhide bone. Loves to eat and enjoys lots of treats. It is very hard to part with “Jake” but unfortunately we are too old and his is just a big puppy.”
We hope to learn more about Jake in foster care. He will not go into a home with young children because he seems pretty physical. His adoptive home will need to commit to taking him to an obedience class within 60 days of adoption.
