Update 2/21/04:
Jacquo’s foster family fell in love with him and adopted him!
Update 2/5/04:
Jacquo is a very sweet boy who right now is very timid. He has not spent a lot of time as an indoor dog and needs to learn that being inside can be very comfortable. Every day that he has been in foster care he appears to get more sure of himself and less timid. He is very attached to his foster mom and is beginning to follow her around the house. He is wonderful with the children in the home (ages 17, 13, & 8) and has been around children as young as 4. He is also good with the resident female ESS and appears to be afraid of cats. The foster family has not seen any type of aggression in this boy.
His foster family is in the process of crate training him. He has been doing very well although he whines & howls when he first goes in. The first night when the family tried to put him in the crate he jumped right on the bed and looked like he would have been very happy to stay there. He did get down and went into the crate when told.
Jacquo does not appear to know any commands. The foster family is trying to get him to learn that “come” can have pleasant rewards. They will also work on sit and down when he is feeling better. Jacquo is good on and off the leash. When outside he will stay within the yard even though it is not fenced. If he goes to investigate he will “check back” to see what his people are doing.
When he is outside his playfulness really shows. He loves to chase (or be chased by) the resident female Springer. He also will chase balls, frisbees or sticks. His former owner says he loves water and he also appears to love the snow.
Although he is not crazy about getting his ears cleaned and drops put in twice a day he accepts that it needs to be done. He has no problem with having his feet dried off when coming into the house or with handling of his ears. He appears to like being brushed and his former owner stated that he likes getting a bath.
Are you the family that can show this sweet boy how wonderful life can be?
Original:
Jacquo is a 9 month old liver and white male Springer Spaniel looking for a new home. Jacquo, and his brother Jabou, were turned over to MAESSR because their owner does not have the time to give these boys the attention they deserve. Jacquo was born and raised on a sheep farm for the first 7 1/2 months of his life. His last owner had him for about 6 weeks. She reports that Jacquo is a very sweet boy. Jacquo is good off and on leash and has never been in a fenced in yard. While Jacquo has not been in the car much, he was well behaved the time that he was. This sweet boy has been around children as young as 4 years and was pretty good, just a little rough. Jacquo has never shown any aggression, he and his brother Jabou have even shared a food bowl. Do you have what it takes to give this young boy the home that he is looking for?
