Jackson is a typical high energy, 14 month old fieldie; however, his sometimes over-the-top exuberance proved too much for his Pennsylvania owners. So, they called MAESSR to find a more suitable home for him that could help him burn off some of his energy.
This pup was a little anxious for the first couple of days in his foster home. He had to sniff out every corner and learn how to play with the resident female Springer pup. Initially, he did not like being crated – crying and whining most of the night. Now that more exercise has been added to his daily routine, he is beginning to settle in. Jackson loves attention from his foster parents and is learning to share that attention with the resident puppy. He has even started playing with her! Early on, Jackson discovered that his foster parents are especially good at giving belly rubs and rubbing his ears! He loves that special attention.
Jackson is fully housetrained and is learning that his crate is not a bad place to hang out. He is definitely getting better about settling in his crate for the night or when his foster parents go to work. Part of being a good house Springer involves learning what is acceptable to chew or carry around. When Jackson takes something that he shouldn’t have, he will let his foster mom take it out of his mouth but only after a short game of chase! To get more attention, Jackson will jump on people and on the furniture. This behavior is being worked by his foster parents as they teach him to approach people calmly and to stay off the furniture. Jackson is also learning to walk on a leash without pulling too much.
When it is play time, Jackson loves tennis balls and will engage in a good game of fetch anytime! If errands need to be run in the car, he is always a willing passenger, riding well in the car. This good boy was also very patient at the groomers, allowing letting them to clip his nails and trim his gorgeous fieldie coat. Jackson has an appointment to visit the vet for his heartworm test and then he will be put on a monthly heartworm preventative. His previous owners had started him on an anti-anxiety medication; the need to continue him on this medication will also be discussed with the vet.
Since Jackson is a high energy boy that is learning appropriate behavior, he needs a forever family who understands the exercise and training requirements of a young Springer pup. That patient family will reap the reward of having a young Springer who wants nothing more than to please his family.
Open your heart and home to Jackson.
