Original: Jack came into rescue because his family adopted a Springer without knowing much about the breed. In fact, they settled on a Springer because a family member had a female and she wanted to breed!! With not much familiarity with the energy level of a field-bred Springer and no time, Jack languished in his crate. Luckily, we were able to place him in a loving home. Here is there update on Jack:
Update: Jack has become a really great boy. He is very loving and likes lots of attention. He had been kept in a crate most of the time when we adopted him at 14 months. We only kept him in the crate for the first couple of weeks and then we went to sectioning him off the kitchen and utility with child gates. We had to use two (one on top of the other) because Jack had learned how to get over them to get to his previous owners’ little girl.
Jack loves children and will go up to them for pets. He is cautious of men. He barks at them and takes quite a while to warm to them. It took Jack about an hour to be friendly to Paul when we first met him. Jack does take quickly to women even though he had not bonded with his previous female owner. (He was the man’s dog.)
Jack loves to go for rides in the jeep and to take walks. He enjoys playing with Phipps’ squeaky ball and likes I play take away with him. He has become good friends with our neighbor’s male dog.
I don’t think the previous owners knew what a jewel they gave us for adoption. Jack does not bother things in the house even though he has the full run of the house. He knows which are his toys and plays with them. Jack loves to sleep on the bed, especially at night — in the middle. Jack appears to be very intelligent and learns quickly.
We still miss our Phipps, but Jack is fast becoming a heart winner. Jack gives much love to us. Thank you for the opportunity to adopt such a great dog. We will send you a picture soon. Jack was very scrawny looking when we first got him. He has filled out and has a lovely coat now.
Funny, neither Paul or I were impressed with him at first. He was not like our Phipps. I thought Paul wanted Jack and Paul thought I wanted him, that is how we took Jack home. If we had conversed more, we probably would have left Jack. Turns out Jack was a lucky, blessed dog and we are just as lucky to have found such a good dog.
