Original: “He just enjoys snuggles and cuddling with Poppy and his humans!”
When Jack’s elderly owners from New York passed away, their niece contacted MAESSR about taking Jack and his friend Poppy into rescue. Since the niece lived in a distant state, a neighbor was going by and feeding the pair once a day in their outside pen/fenced yard for almost a month before they got moved to a foster home together and settled into home life quickly
Despite always being an outside dog, Jack smoothly adjusted to indoor living. He’s had no accidents since coming into foster care. He tells his folks it’s time to go out with some minor whimpering by the door. He can easily hold it from 10 pm until 7:30 with no issues.
Jack accepted the resident sighthounds in his new home easily. At night Jack sleeps on a bed near Poppy. (Jack is from the same breeder as Poppy, just born two weeks later.) He is active outdoors and mellow inside. That is, unless there’s an “active petting” situation going on. Then, he’ll flop and moan to get his tummy rubbed, wagging his tail a mile a minute. He’s good in the car, fine with crowded outdoor events, even with little kids running up to greet him.
Jack loves being groomed. He knows “sit“and “down” and is decent on leash. Very eager to please, Jack would easily learn additional commands. His tail wags a mile a minute if invited for a leash walk.
This handsome boy has no aggression regarding food, toys or the humans. He’s actually just starting to play with soft toys and he is delighted to have inherited a bag of them. He clearly enjoys pulling every toy out and, so far, he’s not destructive with them. Occasionally, Jack likes to pull a piece of cardboard out of recycling bin and shred it for entertainment!
Jack has lived his whole life with Poppy. Of the two, Jack is more timid, introverted, and relies more on Poppy for support. He just enjoys snuggles and cuddling with Poppy and his humans! He’s a bit of a talker especially when getting belly rubs. Also, he will occasionally bark to alert his foster folks of outside activity but nothing excessive. Reportedly, he liked to swim in a pond in his former home.
Jack and Poppy would be a perfect pair to add to your family. They are full of love and they are also trained! What more could you want? If adopted on his own, Jack would need a doggie companion.
