Original: “This affectionate, attention-loving girl adores people. Her sunny disposition and gentle nature make her a hit with those she encounters.”
Izzy entered MAESSR’s care when her Virginia breeder suddenly passed away. Though she has faced many life changes in the last weeks, she has transitioned remarkably well. Initially cautious when experiencing a new situation, she quickly relaxes and goes about her business.
Housetraining has been going very well for Izzy. Her signal to let her people know she wants to go out is to circle in front of the door. In her weeks with her foster family, she has had only one accident and that honestly resulted from human error.
Izzy is crate trained and seems to like having her own safe space. If her crate is not available, she is equally happy to use a small closed off spot of her own choosing to relax. That said, she does well when left to explore the house while supervised. She is not destructive in any way and has shown no signs of inappropriate chewing. When home alone, Izzy is crated and does well. It is likely that she could be trusted without being crated. Izzy does like to be comfortable and will gladly relax on furniture if permitted but responds immediately to a “down” command. At night, she sleeps quietly in her crate in the master bedroom.
This affectionate, attention-loving girl adores people. Her sunny disposition and gentle nature make her a hit with those she encounters. This sweetheart is intelligent and responds well to positive reinforcement. She has gently placed her paws on the kitchen counter to see what in the world is up there but quickly gets down when told “no.” Being short, it is unlikely that she could reach anything unless it was left precariously close to the edge. The trash is generally kept out of reach but when it is out, Izzy will sniff the top. There is a strong possibility that she would sneak food if given the opportunity. This gal is clearly food/treat motivated.
Walking on a leash with Izzy is a breeze. She does not pull and is happy to explore. She is typically timid with other dogs on initial contact but quickly warms up. She arrived knowing her name as well as the command “come.” It is clear that she is a quick learner and is eager to please. The “shake” command was picked up in no time at all. Izzy rides calmly in the car and was exceptionally well behaved at the vet. She is very tolerant of her ear drops even though it is clear she would rather not get them. She does have a habit of barking/yodeling at those approaching the home.
The longer she is in her foster home, the more playful she becomes. Though she seems to have no current interest in toys, she is beginning to frolic with the resident Springer and retriever. Izzy does not guard her food or resources and all three dogs can calmly eat at the same time in a line.
This beautiful girl is going to be a wonderful companion for some lucky family. She could adapt to any type of household but may do best in a home with a doggie sibling that can show her the ropes but can also tolerate her need for tons of attention.
