Original: “His foster home has multiple dogs in it – residents and other fosters – and Indy gets along great with them with no aggression, possessiveness or dominance. “
Indy was relinquished to MAESSR after he nipped at the neighbor’s leg as she walked away. Even though there was minor injury to the neighbor, the incident frightened the Maryland owner who has small children. The owner observed that Indy had been getting much more anxious in the last six months and that the children made him more anxious.
Indy was started on an inexpensive anxiety medication and it seems to be making him feel much more comfortable. His eyes have lost the terrified expression and his body posture has softened to more normal and relaxed. Indy’s foster mom feels that he will probably need to be on some type of anxiety medication for at least the next couple of years.
His foster home has multiple dogs in it – residents and other fosters – and Indy gets along great with them with no aggression, possessiveness or dominance. He LOVES to play with them and, although he is a bit rough during this playtime, the other dogs don’t seem to mind.
Housetrained and crate trained, Indy also knows his basic commands but pulls strongly on leash. A harness helps to diminish this pulling. When first meeting people, he does jump up on them and is being taught not to do this. Indy enjoys being invited on car rides and is a good passenger.
From a personality standpoint, Indy is energetic and smart. He responds very well to training but gets into things when he is bored. He loves to chew on Nyla bones, but can be possessive about other toys. When Indy gets possessive of a toy, his foster mom works with him to trade a cookie for whatever toy he is guarding at the moment. That has been successful and has helped to change the energy of the situation.
Since Indy is a fairly high energy boy, his adoptive family will need to make sure he gets enough exercise.
They will be rewarded with lots of love and a great partner to cuddle with!
