Update 4/16/03:
Indiana has been doing great with his foster family and has changed quite a bit. He has lost weight, is sporting a fashionable new haircut and has shown us that he is an ever cheerful, affectionate little boy. I think he may be the bubbliest dog I have met – he spins in circles when you get his leash, bounces to get in the car for a getaway and always has that little white tail going a mile a minute. My favorite word to describe him is zippy, and close behind zippy are loyal and discerning. Indy is open and friendly to people of all ages, dogs and cats alike, but he reserves a special part of himself for certain people. Those are the ones who are treated to his trademark leaning, lap cuddling and the rare Indy kisses (everyone else just gets face sniffing!). Here’s a quick story that I think illustrates Indy perfectly: In the middle of a sleepless night when I was very upset (tears, tissues and starring out at the moon – I’m sure everyone has had similar nights at one time or another!) and the whole house was asleep with my own dog and cats conspicuously absent. Finally, I felt something warm at my feet, so I turned around and threw my arms around what I expected to be my own dog. But to my surprise, it was Indy. Generally he does not care for too many giant hugs; I expected him to wiggle away and start spinning in excited circles like usual. But that night, he sat and patiently let me sob on him till his little head was damp, he crawled up on my lap – something he had never done before – and waited. And when I finally calmed down, he picked up a kong toy and turned around in a single test circle, with a slow wag of his tail, “Are you okay, can we play now?” That is my Indy boy – carefree, full of mischief and in possession of one huge, loyal and sensitive heart.
Indy is afraid of crates but does not jump baby gates. He is great with other dogs, cats and kids. He needs training for his obsessive love of counter/table surfing and his overly enthusiastic style of walking on lead, but he does know how to sit and does not get up on furniture. However, he loves to be invited to sleep in bed with his favorite human and will try to creep in during the middle of the night! I know the right person is out there for Indy – could it be you?
Indiana is good with other dogs and children. He is okay with cats, but will pester them when bored. He is not crate-trained and is very frightened of crates. He needs training, but responds well with food rewards and a training collar. He does not get on furniture.
Original:
Indiana Jones is a small, zippy, independent, tenacious and fun-loving dog! He has perky ears, a non-stop tail and an expression that says, “Bring it on!” He is quite a bit like his name sake; a consummate adventurer and treasure hunter who relentlessly explores the counters, tables, trash cans and planters for any valuable (preferably edible) artifacts. Like any archeologist worth his salt, he likes to explore, take walks, hunt balls, play chase and chew bones. He loves tummy rubs and kisses on his kissing spot. (He has a perfect black circle on the top of his head that we call his kissing spot. (He comes up to people and bows his head for his kisses now.) Indy is independent, friendly with everyone but a bit reserved at first. However, he warms up quick especially if you are a human who has the same hankering for adventure, a bit of patience and a good sense of humor. If you are up for a little adventure and a daily dose of mayhem, then Indy is your boy!
Update 5/2/03:
Indy has finally found a forever home!
