Update 07/26/12:
Great news for India! This sweet girl is recovering nicely from her successful heart surgery.
India’s surgeon, during a follow-up visit, was very impressed by her heart sounds – they were perfect! She will continue taking a medication for a few more months to give her heart time to recover. She then will be medication-free.
Since there are no long-term side effects from this surgery, India now will have a normal life expectancy and can go back to being a crazy Springer girl!
After she is spayed in a couple of weeks, this adorable pup will be ready for adoption. India comes with a heartwarming story; she’s guaranteed to warm the hearts of her new family members!
Original:
India came to MAESSR from Virginia when her family’s landlord changed their policy about allowing dogs. The family was also faced with the high cost of the heart surgery India needed and just could not swing everything at the same time. They were very sad to let India go, but also knew that MAESSR would take good care of her.
India is a great little Springer puppy. She loves to race and play chase with the other dogs in her foster home. She always wants to be in the center of the action. India is well on her way to being housetrained with only a rare accident. She is crate-trained and sleeps in her crate at night.
MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in an obedience class within 60 days of adoption.
Before India will be ready for adoption, she’ll need to undergo heart surgery. India has a heart murmur and congenital patent ductus arteriosus with several related issues. Her cardiologist has stated that she needs ductal occluder surgery, which has already been scheduled. Once she recuperates from that operation, India will be spayed.
Keep this sweet girl in your thoughts over the next few weeks as she undergoes surgery and gets back on the road to a happy and healthy puppyhood!
