A divorce split Hunter from his West Virginia owners who had raised him from a puppy. Now, he has become a MAESSR boy.
Hunter has lived with children down to infants and is good with all people. This mellow soul is good with cats as well as other dogs, too. Not aggressive in any way with people, Hunter doesn’t care if his humans take food and toys away from him. His former owner described him as an overgrown lap dog who is a bit lazy.
Although his owner said Hunter was food aggressive with other dogs, this has not been seen while he has been in foster care. He has been good with the resident Springers and another MAESSR foster dog. Just to be on the safe side, though, he is fed in his own area to prevent any potential problems with the house dogs. This slightly overweight baby could stand to lost a few pounds, but, hey, Hunter is a large-boned boy with big feet! He thinks his diet should include his favorite food—pizza crusts!
Trustworthy and housetrained, Hunter does not use a crate. When he needs to go out, he signals by becoming animated. He is fine in the house all day when his foster parents are gone; he has full roam of the house without any problems. At night he sleeps on a doggie bed in the master bedroom. Hunter does not counter-surf, get on furniture nor chew inappropriately. He does bark when he wants something and will bark and pull when he sees another dog on a walk. He barks when he hears people around the house, too. He is good in the car and he knows the commands “sit,” “come,” and “shake.”
Hunter has been a perfect dog at his foster home. He has had a great time running at their farm and playing in the water.
A versatile boy, Hunter could be a part of a forever family including active children who will play with him. Or, he could be a great dog for someone who needs a quiet companion requiring little exercise. A must in his forever home will be a fenced-in yard for Hunter’s roaming habit. This is the right boy if you like a big, sweet, Velcro Springer.
