Updated 11/19/06: Hudson won over the vet techs recently when he spent an overnight with them for his neutering. He was very sweet and well-behaved, certainly not unusual but always nice to see in a dog who may not have had very much experience with vet visits. He fussed a little when starting out in the car to travel there but settled down quickly once underway. Good boy!!
He continues to improve in his ability to get along with the other dogs in his foster home. Hudson can now spend time with the other dogs without any trouble springing up. He is still somewhat possessive about toys but may find sharing easier with a little more time.
Though still quite thin, Hudson is eating a bit better and starting to gain weight. He remains picky about his meals but loves to get treats and eats those with enthusiasm. He is becoming more affectionate with the people around him and likes to have his head scratched and his belly rubbed. He’ll soon be ready for new hands to give him those scratchings and belly rubs. A forever home is just what he would like most this holiday season. And if his family would add a stocking to the mantle with his name on it and loads of treats in it, his life would be complete!!!
Original: Hudson was surrendered to a shelter in western Pennsylvania along with a puppy who was quickly adopted. According to the shelter personnel, Hudson got along fine with his little companion but was afraid of other dogs in the shelter. He has had a few conflicts with the other dogs in his foster home, but no injuries have resulted, and he is improving in his ability to get along with them.
This is a very tall boy with a beautiful full tail and tons of cute freckles. Hudson is also quite skinny and could stand to put on a few pounds. Since he’s a bit of a picky eater and doesn’t always finish his meals, rounding him out may take a little more time than with the eager eaters. Fortunately, he has no apparent health problems and will finish his basic vetting when he visits the vet for neutering.
Hudson is very affectionate with people. He likes to give kisses and loves to get belly rubs. The shelter reported that a group of 14 year olds visited to play with him and Hudson loved it. He enjoys playing with toys and frequently has one in his mouth. He is housebroken and hasn’t chewed anything he shouldn’t so far. Adding to that, Hudson rides well in a car. Learning new things quickly is one of Hudson’s strong suites. He is very smart and knows some basic obedience commands like “sit.” He can also “stay” for short periods. He walks pretty well on a leash but will pull a bit if he sees something really interesting that he wants to check out.
Initially, Hudson was unfamiliar with being crated and didn’t like it one bit! However, he learned very quickly to go into his crate when told and to be quiet while in there. To see him now, you’d think he’d been crate-trained since puppyhood instead of for only a couple weeks. He spends all night in his crate now as well as short periods during the day and doesn’t make a sound. Good boy!!
Much is new for Hudson, but he seems to be learning and adapting to the new opportunities around him. More on this boy as he becomes a little more settled.
