Homer is a sweet boy of 11, who will be 12 in August. Homer was rescued from the shelter eight years ago when he was approximately four years old. Unfortunately, about two years ago, Homer developed severe separation anxiety, and would become destructive whenever he was left alone. The owners tried medication to no avail. After the birth of their second child a few months ago, his owners could no longer deal with the issue, and felt it was unfair to Homer to keep him penned in the basement whenever they went out. Homer is reported to get very stressed when crated, and we haven’t tried to crate him.
We have had no problems with destructive behavior when leaving Homer for work for up to 9.5 hours with his foster brothers for company. Homer gets along great with his foster brothers, and is the omega dog. He is reported to not get along with dogs his size or larger, but we haven’t had any issues. He will bark and charge at another dog if it barks or runs at him. If a strange dog is friendly, Homer will be friendly right back. Homer does chase our house rabbits, and after two weeks, continues to do so. He will also chase our neighbor’s cat, if he spots it. Homer got a clean bill of health from the vet. He is a little hard of hearing and his eyes are cloudy but his vision is O.K. He has a few lumps and bumps like all older dogs, but nothing of concern. Homer doesn’t seem to be able to hold his bladder past eight hours, so would do best if he can have access to a yard more frequently than that. We walk Homer at least two times a day, and he is great on a leash. We have also let him loose in our yard, and he is quite content to hang out and supervise your gardening activities. When Homer has started to wander off to explore, he has been responsive to our calls.
Homer has impeccable manners around food, and doesn’t counter-surf or bother the garbage. Homer gets along great with our 4 -year-old, and has lived with babies through age 4 with his owners. Homer is a real love bug, who loves getting his ears scratched and will try to sneak into your lap. He hasn’t tried to get up on the furniture except for trying to get into your lap while petting him. Homer also sleeps in his own bed at night and will get you up if he needs to go out. Homer is very people-oriented, and wants someone to love who will love him back. Homer is a real sweetheart who wants a home with a nice doggy friend, or someone who will be around to pet him.
