Holly was relinquished by her Pennsylvania family who recently had a second child and could not afford to keep her. She was well-loved by this family who knew they could count on MAESSR to find her another loving home for the second part of her life.
Holly is totally housetrained but she does not like to be crated. When her foster family is at work, Holly gets full access in the home with the resident dogs with whom she will initiate play. Holly and the resident dogs sleep in dog beds outside of the family’s bedroom door. She generally does not like it when her people go out, so it might be best if her forever family is retired or has someone home much of the time. Her foster family is helping Holly polish her house manners a bit. She does beg and will counter-surf to see if anything good has been left there. The garbage can is a temptation for her also. Her foster family is working with her to correct these foibles.
Holly’s sweet temperament makes up for these shortcomings, though. She is very friendly with both adults and little children and with dogs and cats. With her feline friends, Holly may give them a short, friendly chase to get a sniff, but then she is fine. Out in the yard, she will chase rabbits and squirrels, though. Holly was a good girl at the vet who had her thyroid tested to see if a low thyroid level may be contributing to her seasonal allergies. She had been so itchy by her tail that she rubbed off her fur in some spots. This condition is improving with her being given an over-the-counter antihistamine; her fur is growing back in the bald spots.
Holly is not a barker, a digger or a chewer. She loves swimming and going for walks. Playing fetch with tennis balls and playing tug with ropes with knots are two of Holly’s favorite pastimes. She walks pretty well on leash, but shouldn’t be trusted off leash because she will take off after a critter! Once a rabbit is in sight, coming on command is forgotten. In a more controlled situation, Holly knows sit, come, down, and paw. Her foster family is working with her on not jumping up on people when she greets them, too. This sweet girl likes going for a spin in the car and she rides well. She has also been very good with having her ears and feet trimmed.
Some lucky family is going to have a wonderful new companion when they adopt this friendly, calm, low energy girl!
