Hiro and his brother Jackson entered MAESSR’s care when their Pennsylvania family had to downsize to a smaller home and no longer had space for these sweet pups.
Hiro arrived at his foster home and excitedly went up the front steps, his tail wagging and body shaking with delight. He made himself right at home and has since shown himself to be one of the most loveable, well-behaved youngsters his foster mom has ever known. He is polite, friendly, and loving to adults, children, and the many neighborhood dogs he meets on his walks. He met a cat at the vet’s office and was curious but polite with it.
When the vet examined Hiro, he found him to be in good health overall, but felt that he could stand to lose about ten pounds. While Hiro enjoys a good walk, he also loves to gobble down his kibble. His family will have to be vigilant to ensure his exercise and intake stay in the proper balance. Fortunately, Hiro does not beg for people food which is not friendly to a young pup’s waistline! Hiro walks well on either a regular leash or a flexi-leash with no pulling. He does not leave the yard unless asked to do so; then, he happily heads off on whatever adventure awaits him.
In the house, Hiro has impeccable manners. He does not counter-surf, trash dive, or get on furniture. When his foster parents are out, he does well whether confined to a crate, enclosed in one room, or given free run of the house. He is housetrained and has stayed in the house alone for up to 7 hours without accidents. He particularly likes to sleep by the front window of the house, waiting for the arrival of family members, whom he greets with barks of excitement. At night, Hiro sleeps comfortably curled up next to his brother, stirring only when he hears a strange sound. He is very good watchdog and will alert his foster family if he feels something out of the ordinary is going on.
Although Hiro loves car rides and does very well in the car, he does not know how to jump into the car, so a good bit of heavy hoisting is required. He knows the commands sit, stay, and come. Hiro had a wonderful visit with the groomer who turned him into a smooth-haired, handsome young man. At the groomer, Hiro was very agreeable to all the work being done on him. He stood patiently throughout the experience, showing no anxiety or aggression when his feet or ears were being handled – good boy, Hiro!
Hiro’s favorite toy is his brother, Jackson. The two dogs frolic and tumble with each other, share their bones and food, and enjoy playing tug-of-war with their toys (or socks that were left lying around the house). When they sleep, Hiro will often drape his leg across Jackson. Because these boys have been together their whole lives and are extremely close, it would be ideal if they could be adopted by the same forever family. Keep your fingers crossed for these two sweethearts!
