Original: “This curious, confident and independent girl enjoys exploring the world around her and isn’t afraid to do so on her own.”
Hershey was part of a litter of 8 that came into MAESSR’s care at 9 weeks old when a Maryland breeder fell into bad health and could no longer care for his dogs. She has since been fostered with two brothers and a sister.
This curious, confident and independent girl enjoys exploring the world around her and isn’t afraid to do so on her own. She rarely sits down outside is usually the last to go in as there is always more to explore. She stands her ground with her siblings and will quietly assert herself if there is a toy or stick that she wants to lay claim to. She enjoys “stealing” the ball or stick from the big resident Springer.
Hershey is great with kids and has been toddler-tested with children as young as three. She loves someone to play with—kids and/or dogs. Happily, she lets the foster kids carry her around and if the play goes outdoors, she loves a game of chase around the back yard. Hershey is great with other dogs. She has been fostered with her two brothers and a sister as well as a six year old female Springer and a ten year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and has done well with all. There are no cats in her foster home.
At 16 weeks, Hershey is still learning commands but knows “sit” and “come.” She has a hard time focusing during group training and will often wander off to explore but does really well one on one. Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in a series of obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Hershey is a very smart little pup and will be a star pupil.
Crate trained, Hershey sleeps in the crate overnight with one of her siblings. She is usually the one of the first to finish her food and would steal from the other dogs if given half a chance. So, she fed inside her crate and has the routine down to go to the crate at feeding time without issue.
Hershey is not a barker. She is calm in the crate at home and in the car. She will bounce around in her crate and whine a bit in excitement when she sees someone coming but will quickly move to sitting patiently until it is time to get out. She isn’t a big fan of the running water of the bath but calms down when it is turned off. With a bit of wiggling over the excitement of being held, she will let her foster mom clip her nails. She is still learning the brush is not a chew toy but isn’t scared.
Bring this bit of sweetness into your family!
