Hero is enjoying his adopted home!
Original:
Hero is a beautiful liver and white 2.5 year old boy, who is still all puppy! He was born June or July of 2002. Hero was turned over to MAESSR because his owners did not have the time to give him the attention he deserves. Hero is on the smaller side measuring 18 inches high. Which makes him a perfect fit for your lap, which is where he would be content spending every waking hour! He has been to the Vet and received a clean bill of health and is UTD on all his vaccinations. He will be neutered on February 11.
Hero loves to chase the ball but is not great at bringing it back. His foster mom is working on rewarding him for bringing the ball back. Hero will also pick up shoes and carry them. He does not chew them but thinks it is a game for you to get your shoe back. He is slowly learning the things he can carry and those he can not carry. He will counter surf, but knows to get down when corrected.
Hero rides in the car great and is eager to go. However, he will stop at nothing to get out once the door is opened. For his safety, his foster mom is transporting him in a crate, so he will not escape through an open door. He puts up some resistance going into the crate but settles immediately. Hero has been going to work with his mom, meeting all kinds of new people. He is somewhat timid with strangers and will cower when a hand moves toward his head. Once he is introduced to the stranger and he has been allowed to smell them he is accepting.
He is potty trained, and answers to “you gotta go potty” and he will wait at the door. His previous owners report he was trained by a dog trainer in German, however he seems to understand the commands in English, which is what his foster mom is currently using. He lived with a cat in his previous home and reportedly would snuggle up to the cat. He is fine with the two resident female dogs in his foster home and they all sleep together at night.
He was excited to see a visiting six year old and cried when he went home. He grew up in a home with children and must miss them. He needs to resolve his issues around stealing food, if he is to be successful in a home with children. For this reason, he may do better in a home with older children or no children. Hero has blossomed in his first week in his foster home. He wants to snuggle his muzzle up under your chin and fall asleep while you endlessly pet him. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Hero will and is willing to spend time working with him will be rewarded with a great and loving dog.
