Updated 09/24/2022:“He has never shown any aggressive tendencies toward any people or animals.”
Henry recently had his dental procedure, and 25 teeth were removed. He is feeling fine, and his remaining teeth and gums appear in good shape. The day after his surgery he was eating soft food and, after his follow up appointment in about a week, kibble will be introduced.
Recently Henry met a neighbor’s grandson who is about 6 or 7. Henry was absolutely fine with him. He has met other adult friends of his foster parents and was great with them as well. He has never shown any aggressive tendencies toward any people or animals.
Since beginning his life in foster care, Henry has become less anxious. The anxiety from beginning a new life where everything was new was to be expected. He now is learning to enjoy toys and is a pleasant companion to the resident dogs.
Henry’s foster family will find it very difficult to say goodbye to this lovely dog. He deserves a family that can love him forever and give him the attention and companionship he missed in his previous life.
Original: “Henry has one toy that his foster parents bought him–a padded animal, and he loves to have it in his mouth but has never abused it.”
When the owner of a Virginia breeding kennel died, she specified that she wanted MAESSR to place her Springers. Henry is one of those dogs.
Henry soon went from kennel life to living inside a home and he loves it! He has two canine housemates, both seniors like him. The resident eleven-year old male dachshund is very mild-tempered and the eleven year old Aussie is also very sweet, typically active, and not aggressive. Henry fit in with the group from the beginning and there has never been a single problem.
The foster family’s next door neighbor has two cats who are outside most of the time. Henry shows interest but hasn’t tried to chase them. He would probably be good with dog savvy cats in his forever home.
Henry thinks the best thing about living inside is his foster parents. He loves attention–thrives on it! And, they lavish attention on him. He just loves to be around people. He is gentle and becomes attached to the people who pet him, rub his head and ears, and talk to him. While he has not been exposed to any children while in foster care, his foster parents cannot imagine there would be a problem with children who are respectful and kind to their animals. Neighbors have accompanied Henry and his foster parents on walks and he has never shown the least aggression towards anyone.
Inside, Henry is polite and as a big boy, he tries to be careful! He has never shown any interest in counter-surfing or getting on furniture. After his walks he is very thirsty and drinks a lot of water. He can be a little sloppy but a towel or rug takes care of that. He has not gotten into trash which is in a cupboard next to his big crate. He has never attempted to get into it.
Henry is fed inside his crate which he goes into when told to do so with no problem. He does not seem to guard any food or possessions–but the resident dogs would not try to take them. His crate has a very soft, comfortable cushion in the bottom. He sleeps in his crate at night in the kitchen and the dachshund sleeps nearby in another crate. Henry is also crated when his foster parents go out.
Mostly housetrained, Henry is much improved from when he initially came into foster care. His foster parents have to walk him on a leash when he goes outside to relieve himself since they don’t have ready access to a direct door to a yard. They know when Henry needs to go out since he walks to the front door or if he is in his crate, he barks.
On his trips to the vet, Henry is a good passenger in the car. He simply lies down in the backseat and gets comfy. He doesn’t seem to know any commands but he complies when told, “Get in your bed, Henry.” On leash walks, he doesn’t pull much and enjoys being out in the neighborhood. He has never played with the resident dogs and nor has he shown any aggression to them. He is just a good boy!
Henry has one toy that his foster parents bought him–a padded animal, and he loves to have it in his mouth but has never abused it. Their guess is this is his first toy.
Henry arrived shaved but smelly, so he was taken to the groomer right away to be cleaned up. He had a bath, got his feet, the fur between his toes, and his toenails trimmed with no problem. They raved about what a well-behaved and nice dog Henry is.
The vets he has seen also have commented on what a wonderful dog he is! He was good for his examination. The vet recommended that he have a dental so that is pending. His foster parents have cleaned his ears several times, squirting in the cleansing fluid and then massaging his ears. He absolutely loves this!
His foster parents would love to see Henry placed in a very loving home, with people who would appreciate and love him for the rest of his life. He would enjoy a large area to run and play and/or enough walks in a day for good exercise to keep him healthy. He does need activity around him and loves being part of a family atmosphere.
