When her lifetime owner suddenly died of a heart attack, Heidi found herself needing a new home. So, MAESSR was contacted, and Heidi is now on her way to a new life.
Don’t think that the passing of nine birthdays makes this Jersey girl an old lady! This spry, active, happy fieldie enjoys getting outside on long walks twice a day and she has plenty of energy left to play tug and fetch with her foster parents. She does pull when being walked on a leash, though; reportedly, her owner had used a Halti lead when he walked her. Heidi comes when she is called and her foster parents are reinforcing basic commands such as sit, down, and wait. Her original home had a fenced yard, but her foster home does not, so she is leashed when outside.
With the exception of putting her paws up on the counter for a quick look and stealing tissues out of wastepaper baskets, Heidi has nice house manners. She responds to off and no with no hesitation or attitude. Completely housetrained and crate-trained, Heidi has free run of the house and has been a good girl. The resident dogs are allowed on the furniture, so Heidi has jumped up on the couch occasionally. Her crate is always opened, so she frequently goes in there for a snooze. At night she sleeps in her crate or on her dog bed. Her previous owner’s relatives said that Heidi would bark when closed in her crate in the house, but that has not been observed in her foster home. She has been quiet except when greeting her foster parents when they return home or when someone comes to the door. Heidi is not object or food possessive and enjoys playing with toys, often enticing her humans to play with her. She loves going on car rides and is a very quiet passenger.
Heidi is used to being groomed every two months and she is reportedly very good, even with having her ears cleaned. She is not wild about having her nails trimmed, though. Between groomings, her owner would bathe her – something she reportedly loves. She has the nice, lighter fieldie coat and lovely, clean teeth. Her owner was very meticulous about her vetting and about her diet; she is one trim girl! Obviously, Heidi was very loved and is very affectionate as a result.
Heidi is good with the two Springers in her foster home as well as with dogs she meets on walks. She seems to like the canine company when her foster parents are at work. The resident cats are gated into the guest bedroom so Heidi can see and smell them without chasing them. She is interested in them, but has had no real contact with them except through the gate. Heidi does not seem to have a very strong prey drive so with some patience and training, she may be okay with cats in her forever home. She would probably enjoy canine company in her forever home, too.
This sweet girl will make a wonderful addition to an active family that loves to get outside to walk and work in the yard with their Velcro Springer at their side!
