Updated 12/28/05: Harley has had a chance to meet and play with younger children visiting in his foster home. He did well with the children but liked many of the little toys that the youngest ones were playing with. He liked the toys so much that he was a little reluctant to give them back once he got hold of them. For this reason, his foster mom feels that Harley will do best in a home with children if they are 12 years old or older.
Harley’s overall house manners remain very respectable, but his foster family has discovered that he will dump a trash bin when he is left alone. Whether he is just lonesome for them or is really enticed by leftover smells doesn’t matter. For Harley, this will mean that the trash bin will no longer be in reach, or that he will be spending a little time in his crate when his people are away. Either solution is an easy fix to common Springer mischief!
Harley also got a clean bill of health when he visited the vet this week and is ready to roll right into his new home. What could be better than starting the new year with a “Harley” in the living room?!?!
Original: Harley came to MAESSR from a very rural shelter in southwestern Virginia. He had been turned in because his family could no longer care for him.
Even with a short time in his foster home, Harley has convinced his foster family that he is truly a Springer treasure. He wants to be with them all the time. Got cold feet?? NOT with Harley around!! He loves to lie on feet and generously shares the warmth of his fur as well as that of his basic good nature.
Harley is housebroken and has wonderful house manners. There is no counter surfing or trash picking on his part. He knows the “sit” and “down” commands. Harley would LOVE to be able to sleep on the bed in his foster home, but once he is told “No”, he will lie down on the dog bed. He usually will come back later, just to make sure his foster parents have not changed their minds. Of course, you can’t fault him for really trying!! It may be that a bed is his coveted place to settle because he has not attempted to get on any of the other furniture in his foster home.
Harley likes to play with a tennis ball but has not shown an interest in any other toys at this time. His foster family will continue to offer. It may be that he just hasn’t had much experience with such things. He shares his foster home with a number of other Springers, both resident dogs and other fosters, and gets along with all.
Ever dream of having your own “Harley”? This one is truly one of a kind and much cuddlier than most other “Harleys”!
