Original: Happy is a young Springer who is aptly named. He was found running loose in Monmouth County, NJ and was taken to a local shelter. His owners were contacted but they relinquished him saying he was too active for their family. Shelter workers then contacted MAESSR.
Happy passed his temperament test at the shelter with flying colors! His foster family has found him to be a very affectionate, playful boy who gets along well with all of their family members two-legged and four. He is good with the resident Springer and Cocker at his foster home, playing ball and not being possessive about toys. Although his foster family does not have any cats, the shelter did a feline test and he was VERY interested in the test cat, probably too interested! Happy was very good at the groomer, never complaining. His is a very amiable boy.
Happy is housebroken and he is being crated when his foster family is not at home. He could definitely benefit from obedience training, though! In his exuberance at greeting people, he jumps up on them. His foster family is working on this no-no with him. He also pulls on the leash and lacks good house manners thinking Springer boys should be able to look up on the counter when they want to. Wrong! Helping Happy learn the proper way of behaving is his foster family’s priority. In his former life, Happy must not have been exposed to riding in the car because he gets very stressed, barking and not settling. His former home had a 5′ fence, but Happy Houdini quickly learned how to open the gate by pushing up on the latch with his nose. Happy is a smart boy who would be a good student in obedience school.
The children in his foster family think his name should be Lucky and then he would be Happy go Lucky! This describes him well. Do you need some more “Happy—ness” in your life?
