Say hello to Gwendolyn! This sweet little girl was picked up as a stray in western New Jersey and is now in foster care with MAESSR. Approximately 3 years old, she is just waiting to be spayed before she can go to her forever home. She’s such a nice pup; it’s hard to believe someone would let her go.
Gwendolyn is housetrained and crate trained but she does not signal to go out. She just is taken out regularly with the two resident Springers. During her first week in her foster home, she was crated at night and when foster mom went to work. But since she is so well-behaved, now she has full run of house at night and when foster mom is home. At night she sleeps in the bedroom with her foster mom and the resident Springers.
Gwen gets along wonderfully with the two resident Springers with no signs of resource guarding or aggression. The dogs are fed in different rooms so all are comfortable in their own space. Foster mom has no idea how she would do with cats or other small animals.
This pretty girl’s house manners are basically good. Gwen has tried counter-surfing and sitting on the furniture, but gets down with a stern “Off!” If her forever family doesn’t mind a dog on the furniture, well, that would be just fine with her. Gwen does no inappropriate chewing and just likes to gnaw on dog bones.
In Gwendolyn’s mind, chasing and fetching a ball are the most fun things to do! Inside or outside, fetching a ball is wonderful! Somehow, foster mom always hears Cindi Lauper singing “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” when she looks at Gwen. She is happy to do anything her people ask. Riding in a car and going to the pet store are great adventures, but she does need to be restrained in a harness in the car.
Gwendolyn knows basic commands and her foster mom is working on “wait”—a work in progress. She walks well with a halti and is good meeting people on walk. She has met older children at the soccer field, but as of now, there has been no opportunity to meet young children.
Gwen was great getting a bath and having her ears cleaned. The vet cut her nails and she was a little touchy with her feet. Foster mom is trying to get her used to having her feet handled. She was very well-behaved at vet. Good girl!
Like most Springers, Gwendolyn likes to be where her people are and would love to live permanently with someone who will spend quality time with her. Her new owner should have a good throwing arm so as to play fetch with Gwen. She would love that!
