Found as a stray in Pennsylvania, Gunner ended up in the shelter. The shelter experience was a bit overwhelming for this young Springer, so he was very grateful to be picked up by a MAESSR volunteer and taken to his foster home.
Gunner was so happy to have someone finally take care of him! His ears were a complete mass of knots, but Gunner was very patient in allowing his foster mom to spend several hours combing them all out. He even let her give him a bath without any resistance. He stood still and followed all her commands during what is usually a very stressful event for incoming foster dogs. He seemed to understand that she was there to help him. Once he had his bath, he had his feet clipped of the excess fur and his ears cleaned. Then, he was a beauty to behold!
Housetrained, Gunner’s only inside accident happened when he and his foster parents were learning each other’s signals and the daily routine. He has excellent house manners; he has not marked or chewed or destroyed anything. Gunner’s only weakness is that he loves to lie on the furniture! This love bug’s favorite resting spot is in a lap being given some love and affection! He has not been crated since he is completely trustworthy and at night he sleeps upstairs in the bedroom with his foster mom and dad. How such a good boy was left as a stray is unfathomable!
Gunner has been exposed to people of all ages from 2 months old to 89 years old and he has been wonderful with everyone! He seems to know who needs a gentle touch and who can be counted on for some playtime! On the canine front, he has gotten along well with the dogs he has met and loves to play with them. Running around in the yard, Gunner will track and chase the rabbits who dare to venture in. So far, he has not caught any! He knows that his job is to keep his foster parents’ yard rabbit-free! Even when he is on a leash walk, Gunner keeps his nose to the ground so as not to miss any scents, but he does not pull or act unruly. He knows some commands and will do just about anything for a treat! Loving his rides in the car, Gunner is content to lie back and enjoy the trip; however, he jumps up whenever the car slows down or stops to see what is outside the window!
This sweet boy deserves a wonderful loving home! Is there room in your heart for him?
