Original: The staff at the central Pennsylvania shelter where Gunner was taken as a stray knew that they had a real gem on their hands with this springer boy, but sadly, no one came looking for him. Since Gunner scored very high on his temperament test, the staff knew Gunner would make a wonderful pet, so they contacted MAESSR.
Gunner is doing well in foster care. He is housebroken, except for some initial marking inside the house. This behavior is not uncommon when bringing a new boy/male into a household. As he settles in, it should stop. His foster mom has not needed to crate him at all and he has had free run of the house with the resident dogs when left alone. He was a good boy at the vet, but he is not crazy about receiving his ear meds.
Some obedience training should be in Gunner’s future since he pulls when on the leash and he cannot be trusted off the leash. However, he does know the commands “sit,” “no,” and “outside.” Always ready for a car ride, Gunner is a great passenger. He rides beautifully in the car, lying on the back seat quietly. Although he does not jump up on the counters, he will investigate the trash. His foster mom is working to correct that behavior.
Gunner loves to be close to people and he is a real snuggler. He is polite when he meets people, only jumping up on them if invited to do so. Gunner does not really interact with the other resident dogs in his foster home, but he does back down when growled at. It’s another story with the poor resident cats. Gunner is relentless in chasing them, and not in a playful manner. No kitties for Gunner in his ideal forever home!
This sweet springer boy is quite mild and very loving. He loves being up close and personal, so sometimes he will even sit in his foster mother’s lap. Is there room on your lap for Gunner?
