Update 03/23/11:
Grizzly was returned to MAESSR after he started attacking the smaller dogs in his family about 2 months ago. The family had tried to work with him but was unable to reshape his behavior. One of the smaller dogs in the home had become so frightened of Grizzly that he shook every time Grizzly was around. The other small dog would stand up to Grizzly, so he was left alone. The family did not feel it was fair to the frightened resident dog and asked MAESSR to seek a new home for their Springer boy.
Grizzly walked into his multi-dog and multi-size-dog foster home like he had never left. Since his return, he has been playing with all of the dogs and having a grand time. He remains crate trained but much prefers to sleep in the bed with his foster parents. He has wonderful house manners and loves to cuddle.
If Grizzly feels that you should be paying attention to him, he will swat you with his paw. He loves children but will jump on them so he can lick their faces. He has interacted well with children as young as 2 but may do best if living with older and larger little people. As is true for most springers, he loves to accompany his people when the car leaves home and he loves going on walks with them anywhere.
Grizzly really is a “teddy bear.” He’s youthful, full of energy, very handsome, and has great potential. His biggest need now is for a dog savvy family to guide him into full adulthood and love him through every step along the way.
Original:
Grizzly came to MAESSR when his Virginia family realized that they just did not have the time necessary for an active Springer puppy. He has continued to be a fun, loving puppy in his foster home.
Already crate-trained, Grizzly is progressing with his housetraining. He is all puppy and into everything! Grizzly loves to ride in the car and needs some work walking on a leash. MAESSR requires families adopting Springers a year old and younger to take them for obedience training. This training investment will have life-long returns for both the Springer and its new family. The lucky family that puts a little work into this boy is going to have a super Springer in their lives!
