Original: “Though always ready to go outside for adventures, Gris is also happy and quiet inside, finding a rug or dog bed near the fire to kick back on while his foster folks work.”
Griswold came into MAESSR’s care because his Pennsylvania owners have two small children, ages one and four, who liked to play with his big paws, the one spot where he doesn’t like touched. To keep the kids from getting accidentally nipped, it was decided that perhaps Gris would do best in a home without small children.
Although Griswold does not like his paws handled, he is otherwise good about grooming and generally is a happy boy. Fully housetrained and not an inappropriate chewer, he’s just gated with the resident dogs when his foster parents are away. He does not seem to be crate trained, but that is not an issue since he is so trustworthy. He does not jump on people nor does he counter-surf. Good boy, Gris!
Gris knows numerous commands including “sit,” “stay,” and “down.” He walks well on a Gentle Leader, though he does pull a bit on a regular leash. This handsome boy has proved to be a good trail runner, trotting for over two hours with his foster mom, too. He also seems to love to swim, despite chilly water temperatures.
In his prior life, Griswold reportedly stayed in the yard without a fence. His foster yard has a five foot fence and Gris doesn’t rush the gate, dig, or even think about jumping. Outside, his real joy is playing catch with a tennis ball, retrieving and bringing the ball back to drop it at your feet. Inside, he’ll do the same thing with a soft toy if there’s one handy. When he’s not playing and errands need to be run, Gris is a good passenger since he likes to ride in a car, settling in quickly. Only weighing thirty-five pounds, Gris is a nice portable size.
Though coming from an only dog background, Griswold soon figured out that the resident dogs are just fine for napping next to or running around with in the yard. He even accepts too much attention from the fourteen week old puppy and is great in helping to exercise her. Meeting a friend’s male Springer Spaniel, Griswold immediately went into “Springer play” mode. In general, people who have met Griswold can’t believe he’s seven years old! Though always ready to go outside for adventures, Gris is also happy and quiet inside, finding a rug or dog bed near the fire to kick back on while his foster folks work. As his foster mom says, Griswold is such “an easy boy to have around.” He will be a wonderful addition to some lucky family!
