When it came time to whelp, Tilly 3 was underweight and homeless. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan spotted the family and took them to a West Virginia shelter when the newborns were 3 days old. Since the shelter had no nursery, the family was housed with the general population. As soon as MAESSR learned of their plight, assistance was offered and graciously accepted.
After several weeks in foster care, Tilly’s little ones passed a mini-milestone …………all were finally weaned. It took Tilly a little longer to accomplish this than many momma dogs but only because all the puppies in her mixed-breed litter were the “apples of her eye.” As a nod to Tilly’s devotion and in the spirit of the fall season, naming Granny and her siblings after apple varieties seemed perfectly fitting.
From the beginning Granny has been the puppy most interested in being cuddled. She’s always ready to lie quietly in her foster mom’s arms for some rocking. She loves to be talked to and to have her silky-soft coat stroked. She’s a normally active pup in every other way but when quality time comes along with her people, she sets aside all squirminess!
Granny will soon be available for adoption and is looking for a family that loves puppies and all the busyness that goes with them. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in an obedience class within 60 days of adoption.
It’s hoped that Granny has inherited the fine temperament of her mother. Tilly is a beautiful springer who loves being close to her people and gets along well with other dogs. She gave her puppies her very best. Their future now lies in the hands of adopting families. If it’s time for puppy kisses, puppy antics and puppy tails at your house, please ask about meeting Fuji , Gala, Jonathan or Granny. Each is a keeper!
