Grace was pulled out of Delaware shelter, Chesapeake Animal Control, and is currently at my vet’s office. Grace is 38 pounds and seems to be a young, healthy dog other than her blindness. Her teeth are clean and there are no signs of her teeth being worn down and she doesn’t have any gray around her muzzle. The vet said she is probably around 2 or 3 years old.
Her eyes are very cloudy and she seems to have no vision at all. A Glaucoma screen was conducted, and she is border line. The vet will do this again a couple of times tomorrow and see if she gets a consistent reading. The vet also noted that her condition could be due to cataracts (even in a young dog). She suggested that she be referred to an ophthalmologist.
The only other medical issue is a small, old, superficial wound around her ankle. She will get a bath tomorrow as she is dirty, flea-infested, and has several mats. She will also get a trim. Grace was a perfect angel at the clinic and in the car, although a bit restless (understandably so). She really gets along quite well on a leash as she stays very close to your leg when your walking her. Her foster mom quickly realized today how cautious one must be with a blind dog: she walked right up to a small holly shrub and received a prick on the tip of her nose. She is a real sweetie!
Can you give your home and heart to this sweet lady?
Update:
Grace found a wonderful family that will take great care of her!
