Updated 10/10/06: Medical treatment for Goose is complete. His ears are fine now but will need to be cleaned several times a week to keep them healthy. He’s gained 3 pounds while at his foster home and his vet declares him at the perfect weight. At 42 pounds, this makes him a small male but he’s all boy!
Goose remains a very sweet fellow. He has made progress with his house manners. He has learned to “sit” before getting a treat, his food, or affection. He still investigates the kitchen counter but has never taken anything from it. He quickly gets down with a “No”. He will take paper out of trash cans to shred and eat but has never touched the kitchen garbage. This sweet boy loves his crate and sleeps in it, but Goose would like nothing more than to sleep in your bed and sit beside you on the sofa to cuddle. However, neither of these things is allowed in his foster home. A “Gentle Leader” has made walking Goose a pleasure.
This is a fun, energetic boy who loves all people and other dogs. Goose seems to not be bothered at all by cats but doesn’t live with one now. His enthusiasm for life makes finding an active home a must. His only other requirements are love, toys, and a cuddle. Can you supply that?
Original: Goose is a really good guy who finds himself in foster care through no fault of his own. His owners, who got him as a puppy, were a military family. They had one toddler, another child on the way, and were about to move. They found they could just not give Goose the attention he deserves.
Since arriving in his foster home, Goose has been a happy, eager, and loveable houseguest. He is quiet, housebroken, crate trained, and knows basic obedience. He responds well to commands and would love to continue to work on his skills. He would also love to cuddle up on the bed, but since that isn’t allowed at his foster home, he contents himself with sleeping in his crate at night. He is very interested in what is on the counters and the trash but quickly leaves it with a stern “No.” He’s great at cleaning up any little bits that fall off the counter when supper is being prepared.
When outdoors Goose loves to walk and does well on lead. He has stayed close while off lead too. He has lived with another dog and, while there is not another dog in his foster home, he has no problems with other dogs he’s met. He loves all the people he’s met and is quickly learning to greet without jumping. His foster family has spent time taking things from him and have not heard a single growl or grumble. He is not possessive of his food or his toys.
Goose had a wonderful check-up with the vet. He is a little underweight at 39 pounds but his foster mom is happy to help remedy that situation. He has infections in both ears but the daily medicine should clear that up quickly. This pretty boy does very well on the grooming table. He shows no resentment or reluctance at being handled. He is happy, energetic, and eager to please. He rides very well in the car.
Goose’s forever home should be an active one. Any children should be older than toddlers. He needs to have his friendly exuberance handled with exercise. With this, he would love to share the rest of his life snuggled up with a family of his own.
More on Goose as his sweet personality develops.
