Original: “She loves to look at herself in a mirror — or in any reflective surface — a storm door, the door to the oven or microwave, and even a TV screen.”
Glory came into MAESSR’s care when her breeder/owner in Virginia passed away suddenly. This little girl has undergone a lot of changes in the past couple of weeks and she handled them beautifully. She has had her first exposure to many new things: television, cars, guys on bicycles. She notices everything but doesn’t appear to be bothered by anything except the vacuum cleaner. She is an alert, curious girl.
Glory is starved for attention. She uses any opportunity to put her front paws on people to ask for pats or even a kiss. She is initially a bit timid with new people but seems to warm up to them within a few minutes. She goes everywhere her foster mom goes.
Miss Glory also likes to put her front paws on the counter, a table, the dresser in the bedroom – she is quite curious. She is still working on “off.” These days when she is told “off,” Glory stretches as if to say, “I know I wasn’t supposed to do this, but I had a cramp I needed to stretch out!” She loves to look at herself in a mirror – or in any reflective surface – a storm door, the door to the oven or microwave, and even a TV screen.
Housetraining is a work in progress. Glory has had few accidents, but she is given the opportunity to go outside on a frequent basis. She hasn’t quite mastered the doggie door. The first time she tried to use it she and the resident dog tried to go outside at the same time, and they got stuck in the door. The next time Glory tried the dog door the other dog went first, and the flap hit Glory in the face when she tried to go out. She’s taking her time before trying a third time.
Glory’s house manners are generally good. Her foster mom works from home sometimes and Glory sleeps at her feet during the day. She does tend to snore very loudly which can be a distraction during video conferences.
Glory does try to get on the furniture but will settle on the floor when told “no” a couple of times. She sleeps in the dog bed in her foster parents’ bedroom. She will put her front paws on the bed once or twice during the night as if to ask to sleep in the bed with people, but will go back to sleep when told no. She doesn’t get into the trash or chew inappropriately; however, she does seem to like fringe, so the area rugs with fringe are removed. When her foster family is away at work, she is crated. There is a dog walker who gives the dogs a potty break midday, but Glory hasn’t come out of her crate to meet her midday visitor at this point. She rides quietly and politely in the car. She isn’t much of a barker; her foster family has only heard her voice once or twice.
Glory has had several oatmeal baths to address her itchy skin. She has been a very good girl for them. She’s also had her nails trimmed and did fine. She was great at the vet’s office – Glory was quite a hit with them. She had no significant health concerns; there was a little tartar on her teeth and her ears will require regular cleaning…as do most Springer ears. Once she is spayed, this little lady will be ready for her new family.
Glory isn’t a high energy girl, but she does like her family to stay close. Her forever home would give her the attention and security she craves and will continue exposing her to her new big world.
