Update 12/28/11:
All great news for Ginger as she speeds through the busy holidays. She’s seen her vet for the last time and is ready to meet a family that will delight in her being part of their every day activities. Ginger will do well in any family’s home, with or without children, but will thrive if someone who is close to home much of the time. She is a people dog and loves to spend time with any human companions. She still has little interest in playing with toys but loves going for walks, savors treats, and is happiest when right by your side.
With the demand of raising puppies behind her and health restored, Ginger has much to look forward to in the New Year. She would gladly celebrate its arrival with her adopting family but, if that’s rushing fate a bit, being the first adopted in 2012 would be quite an honor for this docile beauty.
Update 12/12/11:
Having settled well with her foster family, Ginger is still the perfect houseguest. She continues to get along with the two resident Springers and enjoys her two walks daily, rain or shine. If a leash is in your hand, she still barks out of excitement! She walks fine and enjoys everyone she meets, young and old, both two- and four-legged. She has shown no signs of aggression, trash picking, counter surfing or chewing.
Ginger still does not play with toys but does love people snacks or anything you may be eating. She sits and stares you down with her big eyes until you give in! She has full run of the house whether her family is home or not. When they are home, she will follow from room to room and always has a person in her sight.
Recently Ginger went on vacation for a week to another MAESSR home with a resident Springer and there were no issues whatsoever. She still enjoys car rides and travels a lot with her family.
Ginger would make the perfect companion for any family, with or without children or dogs. Outside, she likes to go for walks, bird watch, or wait for the occasional squirrel to run by. She is very relaxed indoors and would always be by your side. She loves to cuddle up while her family watches TV or reads, knowing she will be petted. Baths, the hair dyer, brushing, ear cleaning, grooming and vet visits are a breeze for her. Ginger is close to being available and will be a wonderful addition to any family who welcomes her to their home.
Original:
When Ginger’s Maryland owner was no longer able to provide for her needs adequately, she became a MAESSR girl. She had recently had a litter of pups which can be physically demanding. So, once Ginger regains her strength, gains some needed weight, and her milk dries up, she will be eventually spayed and brought up to date on her vaccinations. She is also being treated for Lyme disease currently.
This little 25 pound girl is enjoying her stay at her foster family’s home on the Jersey Shore with two resident Springers. Ginger spends most of her day lying around resting, but she does go on at least two walks daily. On the weekend, she spends time socializing at the dog park and has shown herself to be friendly with people as well as other dogs. Ginger loves people and in her exuberance she sometimes jumps up to greet those she meets, but when told to sit, she does. When meeting people on a walk, she normally sits and waits for some petting.
Ginger arrived in foster care knowing basic commands sit, down, off, her name, and come. During walks, Ginger does not pull on the leash, but just nicely walks with the resident dogs. Together, all three are walked by one person most of the time. Ginger is not much of a player; she has no interest in toys or balls – only treats. Instead, Ginger enjoys quiet, indoor activities. She loves sitting next to someone on the sofa or chair, so that she can be petted and snuggled. If her foster parents do not want her up on the couch, they just tell her and she jumps down, but will continue to rest right by their feet.
The perfect house guest, Ginger is completely housetrained and signals her need to go out by wiggling or going to the door and giving a very short bark. She does not counter-surf but just sits straight up and stretches her neck to see what may be in store for her. If food is left on a coffee table, she looks but does not touch. Good girl, Ginger! She has no car issues; in fact, she loves to go in car. If she’s alone in the car, she prefers to ride shotgun; if others are in the car, she just sits down on a rear seat and looks out the window.
In her trips to the vet and the groomer, Ginger was perfect! She found the spa treatment very relaxing. She loved getting a bath and even fell asleep while being brushed and dried. She was very good about having her nails trimmed and having her ears cleaned. Getting spruced up, Ginger feels great! She loves to be petted and brushed, if her people forget to do either, she lets them know by bumping then with her nose or by putting her paw on their leg or hand.
Ginger is a very low energy dog at the moment, but she is as sweet as anyone could want. She and the resident Springers have the run of the house when their humans are home or not, and not one thing has ever been disturbed! When bedtime rolls around, Ginger sleeps though the night on her dog bed in her foster parents’ bedroom. Although she is not a noisy girl, Ginger will bark if there is a knock on the door though not excessively and, normally, she gives a short bark to go out. When she sees someone carrying the leash, she barks out of excitement since she loves her walks.
If you’re looking for a great Velcro companion who loves to go on long walks and loves affection, Ginger is your girl!
