Gibbs’ previous owners obviously did not know what a winner they had because they relinquished their lively young Springer to a Virginia shelter saying that he was too much for them. Luckily, MAESSR became aware of Gibbs’ situation and he soon came into MAESSR’s care.
This very energetic, handsome Springer has a terrific temperament. He enjoys family life and Velcro is his middle name. He gets along very well with the four resident dogs and he notices but ignores the four cats in the house. Gibbs has met and played gently with children as young as five and eight years old.
His favorite outside activity is chasing his Frisbee! A word of advice – don’t stand in Gibbs’ way when he jumps up to catch it! He is definitely a high-energy ESS who needs to be exercised well on a daily basis. He loves to run fast and play with the resident three year old Springer, chasing and fetching balls, as well as his Frisbee!
Very well housetrained and crate trained, Gibbs willingly goes into his private condo crate at bedtime and when his foster parents leave the house. He stands at the door and raises his paw when he needs to go outside and he doesn’t hesitate to tell you when he is ready to come back inside. He doesn’t chew furniture or clothes or anything besides his toys.
Gibbs is the “perfect … uh … child!” No one has taught him to counter-surf, dig into trash cans, or how great it is to sleep on a chair, sofa, or bed! When he is not curled up with one of his toys, he loves to play tug-of-war with a knotted sock. Such good house manners!
Also, Gibbs is pretty good on his commands like “sit” and “stay” and he says, “Thank You” very nicely by raising his paw. While walking leashed, he sometimes gets a little anxious and tries to walk his human; however, a small tug on the leash and a “Hey, Gibbs” brings him back to reality. When going for a ride in the car, he calmly decides to enjoy the outing by curling up and going to sleep!
At mealtime Gibbs is fed in a private dining room from the resident canines—his crate– and then waits patiently until the door is opened. He is always a member of the clean plate club! Such a good boy!
Also, Gibbs loves to be brushed, and according to his previous owner, didn’t mind having his nails cut. Also, although it is too cold now, Gibbs’ record shows that he loves to swim.
Because of Gibbs’ high energy level, it is strongly recommended that he adopts a forever family with children at least 12 to 15 years old and maybe another dog about the same age with whom he can play. Although he has been good with the five and eight year olds, Gibbs may accidentally knock over younger children. Also, there would be no problem if his new forever home has cats.
Again … if Gibbs adopts you, you will have won the lottery! Without a doubt, if there weren’t already four resident dogs in his foster home, his foster mom and dad would gladly welcome Gibbs as a permanent member of the family. He is a KEEPER!
