Original: “Georgie is such a happy, friendly, loving dog who needs a lot of attention to make up for the hard times he’s had recently.”
Georgie was a stray who ended up in a New Jersey shelter. MAESSR was called, and a very caring volunteer took him to her home where he is now enjoying the good life with other dogs, cats and a wonderful foster family.
This love is very needy. He has a lot of energy, but settles down when put in his crate if his foster family is not home or sleeping. Georgie is housetrained; he has had only one accident in the house so far, possibly due to the steroids he is taking. He has learned from the resident dogs to ring the bells at the back door when he needs to go out—what a smartie!! He is a little afraid of walking outside when it is dark, but does it with some guidance–then he runs and chases anything that moves.
The new family member gets along perfectly well with the other dogs in his foster home and is very gentle with the cats. When the resident cat hisses at him nonstop, Georgie looks at his foster mom for help and cries. He will chase the cats if they run near him but doesn’t try to hurt them–perhaps he thinks they are leading him to food!
In the house, MAESSR’s new boy is fairly calm and has no inappropriate chewing habits. He is, however, a pro at counter-surfing and trash diving!! His foster family is trying to break him of those habits; he responds well to “off.” He is allowed on the furniture and wants nothing more than to be on a lap.
Georgie knows “sit” and “paw.” He does pull when on the leash and becomes excited and barks when he sees other dogs. He loves meeting new humans, but has to be reminded not to jump up. He’s just an incredibly friendly Springer Spaniel!! He shows no interest in a tennis ball, but loves his stuffed animal and hoof chew.
Because he was a stray, George does grumble if the resident dogs get near his food and is fed away from the other two dogs. He is more forgiving with the cats. He will allow his foster mom and dad to take his bowl and pet him while he eats. He also grumbled at the resident elderly Springer while chewing his hoof, but they are now learning to share.
At the vet, the new boy in town cooperated like a perfect gentleman. He made the vet do the entire exam while rubbing his belly—just a Springer looking for attention! He didn’t utter a woof when they cut his nails and trimmed his ears. He actually seemed to enjoy having his ears done, including getting his ear drops.
Georgie is extremely friendly to every living thing (except the squirrels outside). He is a happy, loving dog who needs a lot of attention to make up for the hard times he’s had recently. Keep an eye out as he’ll soon be looking for a forever home—could it be yours?
