Original: Georgianna came from a Maryland shelter where she was dropped in the night deposit box with no note as to her history. On arrival, she was found to be covered in horrible mats and she smelled dreadful. The shelter staff contacted MAESSR and Georgianna’s new life began.
Grooming appears to be a new experience for Georgianna since she was not stellar on the grooming table, initially. Eventually, she did relax. It took three hours to remove all the matted clumps, and she now looks like a real Springer! Her foster mom is making a concerted effort to brush her daily so that she becomes accustomed to the grooming process. Vetting proved to be less stressful for her than grooming. Her vet found her to be in good health with no ear, eye, teeth or skin problems. Her spay scar was discovered during her examination, also.
This lively youngster is housetrained and has been very trustworthy inside. Although she was crated during her ride to her foster home, she gets free run of the house and has not gotten into any mischief. She sleeps quietly through the night, too. Georgianna rides well in the car but doesn’t really want to get in and has had to be lifted aboard. This may be just a temporary thing as she begins to associate the car with fun activities. She will bark at tractor-trailers on the highway, at ceiling fans in the kitchen (but not in the living room), and whenever the other resident dogs are barking, even if she doesn’t know why. For some reason, Georgianna does not go to the second floor of her foster home; she just stays on the ground floor.
As far as commands, Georgianna knows “sit” and “down,” but not much else so far. At this time, she is a puller when leashed, but her foster family is working on that. In general, her manners are good; she does not dig or jump fences, nor does she play in the trash. She will jump up to see if there is anything on the counters that she would like but gets down immediately when told to do so. She does get on a kitchen chair in order to look out that window the view is better there! Jumping up on people is being addressed also. Because of her exuberance, she probably would be best with older, taller children that she would not knock down.
Georgianna is a sweet girl who loves to be attached to people, to the point that she will come and try to sit on your lap if you forgot to shut the bathroom door firmly! She loves toys, particularly tennis balls. When a tennis ball is tossed her ball and it bounces in an unexpected direction that she doesn’t see, her foster mom can send her back out with a “go find” and she will go back out and circle until she does find it. And, when she has it, she comes right back and drops it at her feet. There’s no having to stick your hand in her spity, muddy mouth to get it back! She is very active outside, and really needs a secure place to run off her energy. She could have won the Kentucky Derby she is so fast! Here is an agility or even field trial Springer in the making!
Georgianna is looking for a forever home where she can get lots of activity to keep her from getting bored. If you like to be active outdoors, Georgianna knows a Springer girl who would like to play with you and do outdoor activities with you. How about it?
