Update 05/17/2013: “He wants to do the things that dogs love most………take walks, play catch, monitor counter-tops, and love on some little people.”
Geo has become quite the love bug with his foster family. He had a great deal of anxiety when he came into foster care. The medication that is helping him is very inexpensive and easy to give. It has calmed him down and now he is enjoying life.
This handsome gent is a dog who needs to be with people, so he is seeking a family that includes someone who is home a good bit of the time. Having someone who works from home or who could take him to work would be ideal. He also would love the companionship of another dog or a doggie-friendly kitty or both. He’s worked much of his life and, in retirement, expects to remain active. He wants to do the things that dogs love most………take walks, play catch, monitor counter-tops, and love on some little people. He would be a great fit for so many families. Ask about him now. Geo won’t be looking long for his next home!
Original: “Geo’s background is an impressive one because he is a former working dog!”
Geo’s background is an impressive one because he is a former working dog! Geo was adopted by a family in Pennsylvania about three years ago when he was retired from his drug sniffing work. His family went through a divorce and moved to an apartment; Geo was not adjusting well to life in a small place without a yard. Additionally, he was being left alone for over 10 hours a day, which was another big change for him. MAESSR has stepped in to help this sweet super sniffer enjoy his golden retirement years.
Although he’s a senior, Geo is in excellent health. He is full of energy and in great shape. Due to his greatly changed circumstances Geo exhibited some anxiety, but he has shown improvement since he joined his foster family. He’s currently taking an over the counter supplement to assist him. This boy has a wonderful temperament and a big heart. In fact, Geo literally wears his heart on his fur because he has a perfectly formed, liver-colored heart on his side!
Fully housetrained, Geo lets his foster mom know he needs to go out by pacing back and forth. He is crate trained, but prefers to be with the humans and resident dogs. When his foster parents go to work, Geo is crated. At night he sleeps on the floor or with his foster mom in bed. This smart boy knows the commands “sit,” “stay,” “wait,” “speak,” “lie down,” and “crate.” He has very good recall, as well. Walking Geo is a pleasure because he does not pull on the leash; he’s also a very good passenger in the car.
When Geo’s sensitive nose catches wind of some good smells, he practices a little counter-surfing. He’s a good boy, though, who gladly stops when told “NO.” He does not bother the trash can. If invited, he will lie on the sofa, but he prefers the floor. Geo does not chew on anything inappropriate and does not guard food or toys. He does enjoy chewing on hard rubber balls, and balls are his toy of choice. He loves to catch balls and is motivated with balls as rewards. He does, however, destroy soft toys……he does not like the stuffing in toys!
Geo likes playing with and chasing the resident dogs in his foster home. On a recent visit to another family’s home, Geo was great with the other dogs he met. His foster home has outdoor cats, which Geo ignores. A fairly active boy, if one can get this wiggle-butt to slow down, he enjoys having his fur brushed.
A very good boy who likes to please his humans, Geo has few requirements for a forever home. It would be best if he had another dog as a playmate, as this has helped the anxiety issue in his foster home. If children were part of his new family, he would enjoy them, as well. Most importantly, Geo needs a family who can give him time and love……..and lots of balls! And if you have any toys that need the stuffing removed, Geo’s your guy!
