Original: Gator is an energetic young Springer. He loves to be with his people and sometimes in his enthusiasm will jump on them. He seems to especially enjoy children but since he is sometimes a little too exuberant, it is recommended that the children in his forever home be over the age of 10. Gator has a very sweet disposition and his tail wags non-stop.
When he meets other dogs, Gator is good and wants to play with every one of them. He does need to learn that not all dogs want to play all the time and the resident Springer in his foster home is trying to teach him that very lesson. He is unknown with cats although he did seem just a bit too interested in the kittens he saw at the vet’s office.
In his previous home Gator was sent away for two weeks of training, but there was no follow-up when he returned. He does know “sit” and will sit nicely for petting and attention. He does, however, have a hard time sitting and waiting for things like his dinner, to go outside, or to get his leash on. He will pull on his leash if he sees something he wants to chase, or if he catches onto a particularly interesting smell. He has shown an interest in counter surfing and trash picking, but he will stop either behavior if told “no.” He also likes to snuggle with his people and will sneak his way up on the furniture. Again, he is obedient and will get down when told “no.” Gator is very smart and will benefit from another obedience class, this time accompanied by his new family.
Gator does very well in his crate. He will go in with just a little nudge and a treat. He is happy in his crate when his family is not home and sleeps there through the night. Since he is not yet 100% house trained and still likes to chew, he is not allowed free access when no one is home.
There is only one short term health issue for Gator. He is currently being treated for a yeast infection in both ears and will receive drops for the next 14 days. Shortly after neutering, he will pack his bags and be off to his “new beginning.” Gator was relinquished to MAESSR by a family who didn’t have time for an energetic young pup in addition to 3 young children. He will do wonderfully with a family who will tire him out during the day so that he can relax and snuggle at night. If you can offer such an opportunity to him, he would love you to be part of his “Happy Ending!!!”
