Updated 6/24/07: Little Miss Frosty is doing extremely well in her foster home. She loves to pull the ears of the resident Springer and grab hold of the long tail of the resident shepherd. She has learned to “sit” and “shake” and is working on what “watch me” means right now. She has learned that bringing her toys back to her foster mom means that they will be tossed again. Waiting for permission to come out of the gate in the fenced yard is also coming right along. She is doing better and better on the leash, sometimes even helping her foster mom hold the leash! She will meet and greet everyone she sees when on an outing. When the outing includes playing with the neighborhood children Frosty is an especially happy girl. She enjoys running and jumping with them a lot.
She is doing fairly well with her house training and at times will let herself out the doggy door to do her duty. Eating is at the top of Frosty’s list and when she hears her foster mom in the treats can, Frost knows that great things are coming out. She has adjusted very well to her crate and settles there when her foster mom leaves for work. She will also go in her crate at times to take her nap and she has her meals in her crate too.
Like a lot of pups, Frost loves water. At first the baby pool was just a huge water bowl for Frosty but after watching the other dogs splash around, Frost has now joined in the fun. She will easily hop in, bury her nose in the water and grab for toys that have sunk to the bottom. She also tries to grab at the water that comes out of the hose. The looks she gives during this play are priceless!
Frosty has been introduced to cats with mixed results. In the home she visited, several were hiding under beds and didn’t want to meet her. The one cat that was more confident does not like dogs. When Frost went up to play with her, the cat didn’t want anything to do with her and let Frost know that. Frosty’s reaction was to walk away and play with the cat’s toys instead. What a rather sweet outcome!
Frosty is a sweet, lovable young pup. She will make a wonderful addition to a family who will continue her training and give her the exercise she needs and major amounts of love. She’ll soon be ready. How about you??
Original: Frosty and her four siblings came into MAESSR’s care from a shelter in Maryland. A shelter volunteer took them into her home for a few days until they were moved into MAESSR foster homes.
Frosty is just too cute for words! The resident Springer has taken Frosty under her “paw” and watches out for her helping to teach her the ropes. Frosty crawls all over the resident Springer who teaches her how to play and tells her when enough is enough. Frosty does well with the other resident dogs, a German shepherd and a cocker spaniel. Frosty loves her toys and plays with them hard, shaking them and chasing them. She is an active, busy little springer spaniel! After a busy play time, she finds her spot on her pillow and takes a long-needed nap. Or, she will curl up on her foster mom’s lap for a nap. Frosty loves to be cuddled and held and she snuggles her nose in her foster’s mom neck. Frosty is sleeping all during the night and has not gotten up to relieve herself anywhere, at least nothing has been found!
Frosty actually walks pretty well on a leash, with a few stops to stop and smell and look at what is going on about her. She was very curious about a butterfly that was flitting about her and she was trying to catch it. She is learning “sit” and “shake” is doing fairly well with those commands. With the command of “sit,” she will sit and look at you. With the command of “shake,” she will sometimes also nibble on the hand that is shaking her paw. Frosty has been swimming in the baby pool that her foster mom puts out for all the dogs. She loved trying to catch a blade of grass that was floating by her in the pool.
Frosty can go up and down the deck stairs and she follows her foster mom everywhere. She has had her first bath and did well with that, but of course she loved the towel rub down afterwards the best as that felt like playtime. Frosty has also learned how to go in and out the doggy door. At first she wasn’t quite sure; however, with watching the other resident dogs and giving the door a push with her nose or her front paws, she figured it out. Now, she goes in and out whenever she is able to. Frosty is good in the car. She will crawl around from back seat to front seat for a little but then settles down on the seat and take a nap.
