Original: Fritz is approximately 1 year old. He is a spunky little guy. He weighs in at 47 lbs. and is every bit puppy. He was neutered on November 26th and his stitches will come out on December 4th. His vet checkup was good; he is up to date on all of his shots.
Fritz came into rescue on November 23, 2002. Fritz was in a shelter in Lancaster PA and from my understanding he was a stray. He was in the shelter for two weeks and no one came to claim this poor baby. He is so handsome and sweet. There is no other information available on Fritz.
Fritz is a very smart pup and knows how to sit, he is working on sitting pretty and he has some trouble with stay. He is very gentle when taking treats from your hand. He plays well with our 3-yr old Springer Chase and is very friendly. (Chase is a very tolerant guy) We had a house full on Thanksgiving and he was very well behaved wanted to give kisses to everyone. He loves to jump up and doesn’t quite understand he is not supposed to do that. He has had one accident in the house on the first day he was here. Fritz does not like the crate; he becomes very agitated and barks and growls. He has full run of the house and does go to the door and scratches to be let out; his foster family is trying to break him of the scratching. If you don’t hear him, he will come to you and cry. He has not been left alone for long periods of time because his foster family is on vacation for the week. He has only chewed on his toys, loves balls and playing tug of war. Fritz and Chase spend hours tugging balls and toys.
Fritz does not mind having his ear cleaned, likes to be brushed, and loves to get scratched behind he ears. Fritz has very long legs and is growing into them. He has a little trouble making them work with the rest of his body. But he will grow into them in no time. He can jump over the kiddy gate with no problem. He wants to be with you at all times and is like a shadow. When left home he cries and barks for a period of time then settles down. At feeding time, Fritz thinks he should eat from the same bowl as Chase so his foster mom sits between them to reinforce Fritz that his food is his food. That may take a little while to work out.
Fritz loves to play with his toys, he tries to carry his ball and his pull toy at the same time he is pretty funny to watch. He is a wonderful pup and will bring years of happiness to that special family.
Update from Fritz’s new home: 3/13/03 (Lucky Fritz found a family to call his very own.) Fritz lives with his older Springer friend, Archie, 2 1/2. He is a smart boy, who took to a private training session quickly. Much Greco-Roman wrestling in the living room. Fritz is a bed hog. He LOVES to run on our walks in the woods and comes when called. He is strong, but the gentle leader has turned him into an effective heeling dog on the leash. He did not bark before, but now barks constantly when riding in the car to a destination he anticipates with pleasure (the woods, the creek, etc.) We will continue to work on the fine points of his manners but have been happily surprised at how well the two dogs get along, and  entertain each other, and how sweet and willing to be part of a family Fritz is.
Update from Fritz’s new home 2/24/05: Fritz is doing very well with us, two years on from his adoption. He has settled and is more trusting, and is much better trained than when he arrived. He is still number 2 boy to Archie, but they have established a good marriage rather than sheer hierarchy and domination. He loves to walk up and down the creek bed to investigate muskrats and other varmints, but is also occasionally seized by the need to swim for the fun of it, with his head way out of the water like a lady who doesn’t want to get her hair wet and forgot her swimming cap. He disdains fetching sticks in the water, preferring swimming for pleasure. he has also established a vantage point on a leather couch, where he can sleep with one eye open during the day and see all the comings and goings from the backyard to the front sidewalk. He has displaced Archie as the foot of the bed dog. He is very fond of watching TV, especially the documentary “Winged Migration.” (I’m not kidding.) Westminster dog show also held his attention.
