Original: Fresno came into MAESSR’s care from a shelter in central Maryland. He was one of a group of 39 dogs, 4 of which were springers, that entered the shelter as the result of a puppy mill raid. At 33 pounds, he is a smaller boy but has a good appetite and is in good overall health. Life in a home and as part of a family is all new to him and he is adjusting quickly. At first, he was very shy and would stay in a corner, but he is quickly getting over that.
During the holidays Fresno met a lot of people and now greets them right alongside the resident springers. He loves the freedom of the back yard and will run and play with the other dogs. He is still a puppy in most ways and a bundle of energy who needs a watchful eye and, at times, some redirection. He loves to chew and is enjoying a houseful of toys that he shares with no problems. A chewie keeps him busy when in the house. Fresno has had a few accidents but is continuing to work on his housetraining. He is not yet trusted with full run of the house, so when he is inside, he has access to the Florida room, kitchen and a laundry area. So far, a baby gate will keep him in the appropriate areas.
Fresno has quickly adapted to sleeping and taking breaks in a crate. It was a very new experience at first and took quite a few treats to get him comfortable with it, but he now seems to enjoy having his own space and will go in to nap. He knows “sit” and is working on “off.” He’s a quick learner and will benefit from formal obedience classes.
Fresno loves water. He will occasionally go into his water bowl or a bucket with head and feet. While it’s cute outside, his foster parents are working on having him just drink out of the bowl when he’s inside. During a recent outside trip, he found every mud hole in the backyard and ended up needing a bath. Lucky for him he loves the bath tub and will even lie down in it– no thoughts of escape on this one’s mind!!!
Right now, his foster family is enjoying seeing Fresno grow through the experience of becoming an inside dog. With those sweet eyes and a wiggle, they see he could easily become a lap boy. He will work his way right up while being petted. This sweetie is very lovable and has a lot of love to give an adopting family. Could that family be yours?
